The Scene Around: Haunted Prison House

11/30/2014 5:48:06 PM

Okay, to cap up the month of November, here is something I’d like to share about (how I wish I could have done this a long time ago, but due to a bunch of obstacles along the way...).

So, it’s quite Halloween era in the Philippines then (I never knew such tradition was coming here in the country little by little). Aside from kids dressed in their fancy or scary costumes with a pumpkin-designed basket at one hand while shouting “trick or treat!” along the way, this show was making waves in Philippine cable TV.

Yes, the Walking Dead. I remember at one point, they scored the highest rating ever in the Philippine counterpart of FOX Channel (Yes, much better than the likes of Sleepy Hollow, Agents of Shield, the Simpsons, and even the WWE shows).

And as part of the worldwide craze, FOX Philippines, together with Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, teamed up to put up this entertaining set-up known as the Haunted Prison House. It ran from late October until November 9, 2014. Perfect enough to grace the second to the last holiday spree of the year (aside from Christmas-New Year of course).

Out of nowhere, my curiosity rolled after seeing one of their banners along Eastwood Central Plaza. Just shortly after sporting a much trimmed hairdo, I fed myself and my clamor out as I sneaked in to the celebrated theme park.

We were set into batches of five (people) when we entered this so-called prison house. The chilling-as-cold temperature graced my entry though and the path goes even darker little by little, and those actors gave enough their part to scare the hell out of us.

But to be honest with you, I might be more scared if I was the one who took the lead in this mini-sojourn, something I held on for a very short span. These guys still made a good job of surprising us (but still quite different from “scaring” though).

And at the end of the night, I still tagged myself as survived, and never been totally hunted.

That may not convinced me enough to be scared considering that it’s actually the first time I hit a horror-themed park in my lifetime, but I appreciate the organizers’ efforts to join the Walking Dead’s trending bandwagon.

So, Halloween may be over four weeks from now, and we better get ourselves focus on something we’ve been waiting for (at least, three weeks from now) — Christmas!
