The Rundown Slam: WWE Survivor Series 2014

12/03/2014 10:14:32 AM

They're all fighting for change. The future lies in their own capability to beat each other. It's all for survival.

While the WWE universe are hoping for a Randy Orton cameo despite his absence from the roster just a few weeks back, the Survivor Series was held on St. Louis, where another historical mark was made for the current storyline, and thus halting the reign of the Authority.

The show formally went underway with the confrontation scene between the McMahons and John Cena, with the WWE chairman Vince stepping like a middle man. If Vince's daughter Stephanie and her husband Triple H loses, they will no longer be in power. While if Cena's squad loses, his team members will lose their jobs.

Another twist as per Vince: should the Authority loses, the only man who can get them back at helm is Cena. Looks like I already have found the conclusion from there, aside from its opening clip with the statement “the future is now.”

Moving on to the matches, the Fatal 4 Way for the Tag Team Championship was the first par of the program. Sounds like shades of WrestleMania XXX pre-show where each duo had their flying moment. But give the props to Damien Sandow, or should I say... Damien Mizdow for having the most entertaining gimmick of the night. Mind you, the match may be over a few minutes soon, but the crowd still wants Mizdow (come on guys, let's move on!).

But come on, Miz give him his share!

The Divas title was nothing but a sucker. Perhaps that's a neutralizer from the segments I saw earlier. I hate the fact that Paige was overexposed, yet Natalya wasn't able to strut her stuff in adequate time.

But how about Naomi on her explosive self. That's the good upset right there for a sweep.

But somehow, another sucker moment: Tyson Kidd celebrating as if he won. Hey, it's your wife's squad who deserve to stand right there at the corner, idiot!

Rating: 5.9

Next came Dean Ambrose versus Bray Wyatt, the match I first called “clash of the psychotics.” Yes, talk about the lunatic fringe and the mind-gamer beating the crap of each other. It was nearly an awesome match. Oh, let me reiterate: indeed an awesome battle, despite Ambrose on his usual “disqualification” self. Looks like Dean gave in to Wyatt's temptation.

But mind you, folks. This is actually a prelude to their tables, ladders, and chairs match come TLC just few weeks from now in Ohio.

Rating: 7.4

Here comes a jobbers' match: Adam Rose and his Bunny versus the team of Heath Slater and Titus O'Neil. And at the end, it was the bunny who stood up loud and proud against the Slater Gator. It's kinda entertaining though the least closer to become a heck of a jobber match. Still a sucker on my part.

Rating: 6.4

The Divas title match seemed shorter. Perhaps, they lacked airtime or something. But no, they appeared like a resemblance of WrestleMania 28, where Daniel Bryan lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Sheamus within just 18 seconds – plus a kiss from Bryan's then-partner AJ Lee.

Fast-forward to 2014: Brie Bella kissed AJ Lee before the match, and Nikki just beat the shit out of her in no time to snatch the title away. I thought AJ will leave WWE soon if the circulating rumors were right. But I can sense there will be a feud between CM Punk's wife and that of Cena and Bryan.

Rating: 7.0

Moving on, the Survivor Series had the most airtime during the show. It covered around 65 minutes, or a bit over 1/3 of the entire Survivor Series program.

Big Show actually drew first blood by shutting down Mark Henry with a KO punch. Putting the momentum on their side at the early going part of the match.

Ryback's early exit though was a buster. But you know, I'm foreseeing a potential feud between him and Rusev.

And another momentum-turnaround blow was the Big Show's heel switch, when he knocked down Cena; allowing Rollins to pull a pin and presto, a step closer.

However, Dolph Ziggler is arguably the biggest star after pulling off a win that sent Team Authority into oblivion. He faced three other superstars from Team Authority, including the remainder Rollins. Desperation though called Triple H to knock the referees out and set Ziggler for a Pedigree. He then called another official in Scott Armstrong to dictate the result.

But not until Sting came and put a Scorpion Death Drop to HHH.

The ending turned favorable. And there, folks, was the Authority Era for you.

Rating: 8.7

Overall though, I would enlist Survivor Series as the thir best PPV event for this year, just right after hell in a cell and Wrestlemania

The verdict: 7.5
