I still remember that fateful night my college friend introduced me to their music. Since then, I’m all totally hooked-up.
And what’s the reason not to?
And what’s the reason not to?
Autotelic was already a solid brand (just like their name and their craft) in the Philippine independent music scene with John Villena fronting them and his songwriting skills—as well as the young EJ Edralin and also notable Kai Honasan on the synth (though the latter has been manning the instrument called 'keytar' and vocals as well), Gep Macadaeg on drums, Timothy Vargas on bass and Neil Tin on the lead guitar—Close Your Eyes became my instant ear-candy, especially during the campaign for the Jack Daniels Indie Music Awards.
In fact, they even came close—just an inch-like next to Farewell Fair Weather—in bagging the distinction of Jack Daniels’ The Chosen One.
Still, this track may be younger than Misteryoso, Balik or even Dahilan, but certainly became more popular as it made on the airwaves of FM radio; thanks to Jam 88.3’s Fresh Filter. And it even reached other places like Japan. (Seriously, I remembered one of their Facebook posts related to that matter.)
I even thought Close Your Eyes had a totally different mixture compare to the mentioned singles, with those melodic delivery on vocals and a total dose of danceable rock riffs; plus the fact that it was their shortest-length recording so far (4 minutes and 11 seconds).
But heck, there’s no way you can bump your head or even dance to the tune. Try to hear their set for once and you will see an instant moshpit. Yes, there is something more to this, folks.
