The Pre-take: WWE SummerSlam 2015

Okay, it’s the biggest SummerSlam ever, as The Authority claimed it, eh? Well, you have a match that is called “too big for WrestleMania (even if the root and angle of this feud sounds illogical at will),” then the now-retired talk show host Jon Stewart is this year’s special guest anchor, and all-in-all you have ten matches slated that the World Wrestling Entertainment’s biggest party of the summer goes four hours. Yes, 240 minutes starting from 7 PM US Eastern time (or 7 AM Philippine standard time) on August 23, 2015 (24 in PH).

How about that, despite the sudden closure of the IZOD center?

Well, Brooklyn is the place to be for this weekend if you’re a wrestling fan as WWE will not only stage SummerSlam at the Barclays Center on Sunday, but also the NXT TakeOver will be doing soo, too! And it happens this coming Saturday night!

Dolph Ziggler and Rusev should be the opening match. There’s no question about him setting any pauy-per-view event on a high jumpstarting note. However, with Rusev being not the same level as the former, I doubt. 

I can sense though that somebody will be coming back... together. I’d like Ziggler to win though on a much-athletic ability and storyline-wise, I am seeing Rusev taking this one. 

The problem, though: if that will take place, are Rusev and Lana good enough to be faces? ‘Cause even if they are effective as heels, the country-versus-country conflict is a crappy plot. And it will even worsen if they divert back to that angle. Sheesh!

Cesaro has been supposedly the next big babyface of WWE instead of having Roman Reigns and its ‘inorganic’ push. Him, as a heel (and despite the guidance of Paul Heyman), was nothing but a fluke.= as it sent him into a wrong direction. And what has been an injury to his partner Tyson Kidd, turned out to be effective for him to get another character run. 

However, Kevin Owens badly needs another win in pay-per-view, something that has been deprived from him by John Cena and the allegedly dirty company politics (not related to Cena, though). The bully needs to establish himself as one since his losses on Money in the Bank and Battleground, as well as the NXT championship in his match with Finn Balor at Japan, had his role like some sort of humiliated bitch. He’s not as badass like he used to be; and sure that he’s a heel—but not as heelish as it gets. (Or maybe I wasn’t just convinced?)

Maybe, since we have not seen his pop-up powerbomb was clearly a sign that he will take the W over the Swiss Superman.

The problem with the Intercontinental champion is that for over the past 18 months—with exception to Dolph Ziggler, Big E Langston, the short-tenured The Miz, and Luke Harper—its title-holders were hampered by injuries: you talk about Bad News Barrett, Daniel Bryan and recently, Ryback.

Now, can we have a much-healthier IC titlist?

I wish as Ryback will retain the belt, I could see him more time and perhaps more title defences. Well, we could only wish him well.

I don’t know to you, but as much as I want the Primetime Players to retain the tag-team championships, I am seeing Big E and Kofi winning it again either. And if that happens, it’s literally A New Day. But... you just can’t take The Lucha Dragons and Los Matadores out of equation (oh, sorry... it’s actually more of the former).

The Divas Revolution continues. But as the creatives still aiming for Nikki’s record to surpass former Divas champion AJ Lee, I still think the Divas’ championship sucks. I get it: Stephanie McMahon and Paige ignited this one: but how about setting a title defense?

However, there’s no way PCB or Team Bella taking this one home. The baddest women does had a chance in Sasha Banks.

So, the clash of the arrows – plus the King of the Ring, will also be part of the SummerSlam. A sudden insertion to eh lineup gave this feud some sort of confusion on its storyline. However, it will be unfair if Stephen Amell will have an ally with Stardust. Of course in every comic story, every character has allies—be it a hero or a villain.

But of course, the faces will get this one out.

We have not seen any sick finisher such as Sister Abegail and that spinning clothesline recently, right? And the problem is that will be seeing that one soon? As long as I wanna see Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose win their duel against Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper, I am seeing somebody from the family will turn its back, like from its brother.

And how about Brogue Kick? I’m sure Sheamus will take this victory but the problem for Randy Orton is that a lot of people already kicked out from his RKO. It’s not about the unpredictability this time. And perhaps, something might happen to Sheamus later on like... 

... a sudden cash-in. Yes, as much as I wanna see Cena holding both titles or Seth Rollins taking home the US championship, I‘d rather see a second-coming of an Orton shocker since Sheamus is the MITB briefcase holder, and that will pave way more for the clash in the main card. Sure, during Seth Rollins’ tenure, he had a lot of WWE World Heavyweight Championship contenders. But are they good enough, aside from Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton and even Dean Ambrose? Not even Roman Reigns and Neville came close (but still a good sign).

Because if Sheamus will become the world champ, the chase for that title will go even wider even if that holder will not become part of the Authority. Who knows, this will trigger Roman’s emergence as the top guy? As well as Cesaro, or Ambrose; and even if for a split-second that will change Bray Wyatt’s fate as more than just a heel highest level of jobber.

Say, ten cards for over four hours. That suddenly asked me something like ‘is it worth the extension?’ I guess so; and maybe at the main event, a pleasant surprise may come. Yes, like... a cameo for Sting in a potential Undertaker-vs.-Sting feud for WrestleMania 32.
