The Scene Around: Set Us On Fire

4/23/2016 3:29:31 PM

As of writing time, Words Anonymous will celebrate their second anniversary by holding a program at the PETA Theater tonight.

Meantime, six weeks ago, yours truly along with my partner Maxim and her friend stormed by SPLICE cafe to watch one of their gigs called Set Us On Fire.

Abby Orbeta, M Manese, and Louise Meets headlined the show with the piece of the same title. An open mic session also took place after the performance sets.

Perhaps a steamy way to kick off summer with this show, as selected spoken word poets from WA delivered pieces that ignited one’s spirit, mind, body, and soul on fire. Not literally, but literary. Along the way, there is a cameo from Juan Miguel Severo, who came to promote his book Habang Wala Pa Sila.

It was the second time to hear this group live, though this one was an all-spoken word gig, which looks better at all. It looked more solemn. And with Severo’s success that lead him to mainstream, it’s undeniable that Words Anonymous has raised the bar of awareness and interest of spoken word in pop culture and arts.
