The Golden State Warriors lost two straight games for the first time this season, eh?
Anyone thought it was a big deal, don't you? Well, yeah, it could really be a big deal since this time around—the defending champions ended up trailing 3-1 in their best-of-7 series for the Western Conference Championship; and also the right to represent the conference in the upcoming NBA Finals.
Wait, how on earth did that happen?
Draymond Green with six turnovers, Stephen Curry had a disastrous shooting night; and even if Klay Thompson had a good outing, still his teammates looked all fucked up. And can you blame Green for that, after assessing a flagrant foul on an accident kick to Steven Adams? He may not have meted suspension, but maybe that stil affect his morale as a performer.
And clearly, OKC had took their lessons really well since their regular season meetings. The only way to get past through the 2-peat seeking champs is to play Game 5 as if they were at the Cheapskate Arena. I'm talking about the energy of the crowd that seemed to infect them at will.
And clearly, they seemed to play a lot of offense and even better defense, eh? I wonder if they took that from scouting a defensive winner in San Antonio Spurs before. Imagine: holding one of the offensive heavyweight shits to 94 points? While scoring a 42-27 blitz in the entire second quarter? Damn it.
Perhaps the only flaw on putting up numbers at the offense was the bench. Only Dion Waiters and Enes Kanter scored off the bench for the Thunder—a combined 11-point effort. Maybe because they relied heavily on 40-minuters Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and Andre Roberson, with Westbrook garnering a triple-double.
Well, obviously, Stephen Curry will say this series isn't over yet. It's like that old Lenny Kravitz song. If they will win Game 5, they are still in contention.
Heck, they should be winning the most important games: they are now on the brink of getting knocked down. Who cares for a 73-9 elimination record? Who cares if you're a defensing champs? This is the PLAYOFFS, baby, where upsets are made like an RKO out of nowhere. (Mind you: take the 2007 Dallas Mavericks, for example.)
