This might be one-week late or something, but as they say “it's better late than never.” that being said, here's my take on what just happened at the World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) 29th annual biggest party of the summer, SummerSlam!
So, things moved like the way WWE has been planning WrestleMania before, eh? There's a week of festivity that showcased them a three-night treat of live showmanship called NXT TakeOver Brooklyn II (Saturday), WWE SummerSlam (Sunday), and Monday Night RAW – all held at the Barclay's Center in New York City.
And it's actually the second straight year the WWE has done that alongside of making the main program run for four hours – and six, if you include the pre-show.
And that two-hour kickoff special only featured three matches which only compassed just above the quarter-part of the program itself. While there are total of 13 cards stacked for SummerSlam, the outcome was nothing but disappointment. Heck, they could've add another one that is worthy for the audience to get off the venue earlier, or at least to subscribe to the WWE network. But I guess that's what kickoff shows are made of – talking more (with less punch or smack), and hyping the event in general.
Well, the kickoff matches deserved the spot, I think. While 12-man tag team match appears to be a blockbuster in paper, most multi-man matches in WWE pay-per-view programs deserved to take a little bit longer spot. Imagine having this large number of participants that will last for only like 7-10 minutes long? That's a buster, if you ask me.
While American Alpha was the best tag team of this current season, the Usos just made a statement after stealing the pin from their AA partners. Don't you forget the not-so-young pilots of the SmackDown tandem division, pals! Impressive writing on the conclusion.
Verdict: 7
Sami Zayn and Neville versus The Dudley Boyz isn't really worth reviewing at all. It doesn't mean it sucks, but it's obviously for entertaining; and frankly, it was clash-of-styles that made everyone out there amused. But not me.
Maybe, on one aspect, the nine-time tag team champions were losing grip via series of miscommunication in the recent shows against Neville. Is that the reason why they suddenly retire from in-ring competition? Heck.
Verdict: 7
Cesaro and Sheamus just pulled on a show before SummerSlam Kickoff say goodbye at the airwaves, and with Celtic Warrior gaining a victory proved the first of the heel domination at the event. With six more matches coming into their a la NBA Playoffs best-of-seven showdown, we could only hope their tale will evolve into something more badass and entertaining.
