The Scene Around: Noel Cabangon in Traffic Jam Press Conference

09/15/2016 04:02:43 AM

There was one fateful afternoon in September when yours truly, then-representing a music portal titled Gigs Manila, stormed by the office of Universal Records in Quezon City to catch Noel Cabangon formally launching his concert tour called Noel Cabangon in Traffic Jam, as well as the album Sa'yo Lamang.

The conference lasted for almost 90 minutes, answering questions from the members of the press and rendering three of his popular songs in between.

During the stretch, Cabangon explained the idea behind the upcoming shows as well as his latest record.

The 52-year old acoustic and folk singer said the co-produced Sa'yo Lamang comprised of ten tracks – with three of them his original compositions, with stories telling his experience and insights relating from disasters to political ambitions. While the other seven tracks comprised of the religious and inspirational tracks.

For Cabangon, the latest album was made as his way of “giving back” to Jesuit Communications, one of the organizations he has been part with.

In the other side, Traffic Jam will be showcased in two playdates: 16 September at The Music Museum, and 21 October at the PETA Theater. It was also detailed that proceeds from these concerts will be going for the medical fund of Soxie Topacio, who has been hampered by lung cancer and a related complication. PETA President CB Garrucho announced the news at the start of the presscon.

Expect the best of Cabangon's hits – both originals and covers – to be showcased during the evening with the performance of special guests such as Ogie Alcasid, Rico Blanco, and Aicelle Santos. There will be experimentation of music that might take place during the dates.

On the sidenotes, Cabangon answers some of the hard-hitting questions in related to his advocacy, especially at the time where political colors have already been switched. While remained active for his cause, he still supported the current administration. However, the opinion in detail remains reserved.

Cabangon also claimed to listen to a variety of genres whenever he is literally stuck in traffic jam. And asked about which local artists he's been indulged into, he cited Thyro and Yumi, Davey Langit, Bullet Dumas, Ebe Dancel, and Reese Lansangan, to name a few.

Despite the changing of ways and means, the singer-songwriter believes he still has the market for people who buys CDs. But he also said platform changes been really a challenge for the music industry as a whole.

In case of the Traffic Jam's success, Cabangon hoped for an additional playdate to be scheduled later on. He also revealed another album is at works, patterning to the concept series of Byahe.
