Route 196, the Metro Manila north side's favorite live music place, celebrated their 10th anniversary last Saturday, 22 October 2016, the massive way!
While some of the early attendants were in for a treat (that includes yours truly, by the way), the show kicked off at 9:30 PM with Lions and Acrobats. Next came the crowd darlings Jensen and The Flips. And I think it wasn't really a bad set despite some technical difficulties surrounding them.
Just when everyone thought the high vibe already reached its climax, Tandems '91 came to make everyone groove to their mix of post-disco electro-pop tunes. And another instant crowd-drawer band did a long set – and that is Autotelic!
Despite missing the services of their keytar lady Kai Honasan, Josh Villena and company (the boy band, to be exact. LOL) still delivered more than what everyone expected; playing seven songs during their hour-long tenure. They were literally rocking the midnight away with their iyak-sayaw music.
And the big squad called Brass Pas Pas Pas Pas capped the night of party by sending everyone dancing; making the Route 196 into an instant disco moshpit ground for barely an hour and a quarter.
I must say it's been a very long while since the last time I watched the dance music trio of Tandems '91 live (like let's day 11 months to be exact). And hearing them with some of their new tracks was a refreshment course for me. Looks like I missed a lot from these three.
It was also the first time I have seen Autotelic since their album launch three weeks ago. But moreover, the first to witness the jazz-funky Brass Pas Pas Pas Pas, and fuck it, man. The dopest I have ever seen in over a month.
The crowd was sizable enough for a Saturday night party, with more people starting to drop by at the venue before 9:00PM, and despite the technical difficulties midway, I think it was a heck-of-a-birthday party to celebrate the bar's decade of existence; making themselves the premier gig place at the northern side of the metro.
Congrats, Route 196! Truly, OPM – rather, music – lives here. That being said, here's to more years and decades to come!
