In celebration of four years in making noise at the independent music stage, Docdef Productions brought the big-time gig scenery into a different setting – that is to celebrate their anniversary up to the rooftop.
Docdefy IV happened last 30 December 2016 at the new hangout place in the East that is Jess & Pat's Rooftop Cafe. Amidst the traffic and several yearend celebration parties along Marikina City and its nearby areas, close to 150 people filled the spaces for a night of good music and great food, plus the awesomeness from Magic Manila.
The gig started early at 7:00PM as Neala Medina fine-tuned everyone with her acoustic tunes; followed by the eclectic vibe from the electronic beats of Paincake Patrol. One hour passed by, and bands have turned Jess & Pat's into a pandemonium as Sud came on stage.
Farewell Fair Weather followed suit, and that slowed the pace of Docdefy IV as the then-three-piece band belt their old and new tracks the acoustic way.
Despite missing the services of their percussion and keyboards, Jensen and The Flips still rolled on and sent every fangirl into their frenzy state of mind.
Autotelic also went the same chillout way and it felt more complete than the first time I heard them such barely 20 months ago.
But from the (bit) slowdown, we moved uptempo to one of the rising bands in the indie stage called Rob and The Hitmen, a pop/rhythm and blues band that might give noble listeners a resemblance to already-crowd darlings like Jensen and The Flips, the Espasouls, and even the upbeat version of SUD. Certainly this quartet knows how their own version of swabe music could sway everyone from the get-go.
Capping the evening was the math rock band Tom's Story – with Bea Lao subbing for Christer De Guia on drums; and boy it might fall into one of the best closing acts of the evening with Anchors jamming up loud and (probably) in sync to the fireworks display at the nearby Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall. Like seriously, everyone who stayed were in awe during their set.
Docdefy IV might be the last hurrah of Docdef Productions for their not-so-loud 2016 campaign (aside from Calypso and Late Night with Docdef); but with their biggest offering (that is Tagaytay Art Beat) approaches by, expect this prod to be back on its hype (probably not the typical, but definitely will be).
