Just when you thought this film is about forever like that epic romance film last year, think again. Eugene Domingo stars in a sequel that depicted the current bullshits of mainstream cinema; an ironic mirroring reflection of the concluded Metro Manila Film Festival.
Here we see what are the compromises of the present-day filmmaking, the roles portrayed by Kean Cipriano (as laureled director Ranier) and Domingo, then-returned from a self-imposed sabbatical and aiming for an explosive comeback.
It is a story wherein creative differences spelled both the pace and fate on the storytelling. When 'suggestions' turned didn't sit well with another and passion has put the overall personal rapport at stake.
The thing is, the satire turned out deep and shallow in their respective ways. Seems to us that Chris Martinez's observation has been well-pointed. At least, I realized that there are more satirists in this world other than a popular columnist, a sellout director, and the late Amado Lacuesta – known great for penning the scripts of that '80s satirical program called Sic O'Clock News.
However, in a politically-correct world, satire has been left far behind thanks to these bullish and bullshits of romance flicks; and I think it's a bold statement, aside from facing the reality of why some promising projects were scrapped for the sake of commercialism.
May not be perfect but still well-played.
The Verdict: 8.1
