Upcoming: Paranoid City "Metropolitan" Album Launch

04/24/2017 11:04:27 PM

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, you are now arriving at your metropolitan synth pop destination.

After six years, Paranoid City will be launching their sophomore album Metropolitan on Friday, 28 April 2017, at saGuijo bar at Makati City. And it will formally mark the solid unveiling of the synth pop band's new sound they have been treading for quite some time.

Paranoid City admits that they lost those “illusions of grandeur” and had been more looking on the realistic side, but they have been enjoying their time. Members Dax Balmeo, Japo Anareta, Eric Strange, and Rommel Celespara even bared their names instead of usual monikers Dax, 8-Bit, Eric, and 4Track.

Since their two-part series of launching Viewfinder Dreams back in 2011, the band has been on the roll; performing at local gigs and even international shows (Bangkok, Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea). However, it was only on 2015 when a sudden request from The Filipino Channel that prompted Paranoid City to release a new single “Cold Hearts,” then a Christmas song. The recording for their new songs formally took place at the early-going part of 2016 at La Balls Studio.

The band have been giving credit to music producer Nick Lazaro for revolutionizing their sound way beyond from the way they are before.

Napaganda nya tunog ng banda namin on recording saka sa live. Ang dami naming natutunan sa kanya. He took away all the unnecessary stuff na ginagawa namin, saka he placed all our parts strategically sa mga songs,” Anareta recalls.

Metropolitan also promises to deliver a more relate-able feeling, apart from their “party stages” of Viewfinder Dreams. They also claim there are certain songs they have been derived from each member's personal experiences. They also have taken their own shares in doing lead vocals.

It will also set to become Rommel Celespara's first album as a full-time bandmate.

Expected to perform in the evening are bands with variety of sounds but close to their hearts. Aside from Paranoid City, Friday's featured performers are Farewell Fair Weather, We Are Imaginary, BennyBunnyBand, Hilera, and Carousel Casualties – plus an after-party set from Tito Rhic and Jordy with the Master Showband.

And I asked about what's next for the quartet after Metropolitan? Balmeo says he is more excited on the aftermath. He is writing new songs. On the other hand, Anareta is learning how to put the work out.

Paranoid City Metropolitan album launch will happen on Friday, 28 April 2017, 9:00 PM at saGuijo in Makati City. Entrance is priced at 200 pesos with one free drink. The album is priced at 350 pesos. RSVP to their Facebook event page here. Official event poster (below) made by Emmie Villegas.
