Probably six years is a very long wait for any music personality or group to release a record comprised of a number of his/her works, especially original songs. And somehow, it was worth the long, grueling, test of time for eleven times out of ten.
This past Friday, though, was no exemption, as Paranoid City finally welcomed everyone to the place they'd like to be known as “Your METROPOLITAN SynthPop Destination.” Yes, after 2011's Viewfinder Dreams, the band just launched their sophomore album titled Metropolitan at SaGuijo, Makati City.
Five other bands graced the show (supposedly six, but due to illness, the after-party set by Tito Rhic & Jhordy with the Master Showband was pulled out of the lineup) in a Friday-piloting long weekend.
Indie pop rock band We Are Imaginary kicked off the party, then BennyBunnyBand rocked the night even louder thanks to their very usual set of high-intensity kuneho rock music. And certainly, their “city” getup helped them on entertaining the crowd, a slight far cry from any of their regular wearing props.
Soul-fusion band Farewell Fair Weather performed midway the evening and it just kept the pace on a steady level before going up high again with Hilera, a rock band that gave everyone their fare share of late-2000s reminiscence – and at the same time, their recent ones. Say, they dropped their newest single earlier that day!
And before the album-launchers, Carousel Casualites hit the stage and had left some people rave for them. And frankly, they should be endured by the promises this band is about to deliver come their EP launch of their own in three weeks time.
And since it's Paranoid City's event, they turned the program into a somewhat entertaining late night party with nine songs plus and an encore of three. Plus, Isagani Palabyab of Farewell Fair Weather and Ole Romblon of Tanya Markova joined the quartet somewhere during the set.
That probably left everyone dancing the night away, literally. And that is such a good one to hit the long weekend ahead despite finishing a bit earlier for a typical Friday night gig. Certainly, Paranoid City's evolution (music-wise speaking) became more evident when they played almost the entire Metropolitan track list there. That said, congratulations to this quartet. Indeed, they lived up to their expectations.
