StopOver: 19 East

Undeniably one of the best night out spots in the nation's capitol, 19 East isn't been placed there for nothing.

The classy-looking three-story house-like structure houses the distinction of being the best live music venue in Metro Manila, and its billiards hall and outside dining area provides the best chilling atmosphere you can get thanks to the winds coming from Laguna De Bay (heck, this is probably one of the best examples of Cold Summer Nights in a positive context).

Inside the music hall lies a very intimate dining setup that isn't just suitable for romantic dates alone, and the sophisticated state-of-the-art lights and sound setup which both performers and audiences can really enjoy. That includes the LED board in the background, and a projector which displays videos during the break parts of a typical gig (for most of the time).

If you are a photography enthusiast, you will really appreciate how their tech works on the background screens and lights. Probably one of the great places to shoot for live music performances. And if you are more particular to their sounds, their sound mix and speaker arrangement are somewhat superb. No wonder why my musician friends lamented about their 19 East experience as superior. “Ganda ng tunog dito!”

When 19 East comments (in their Facebook page) “Try our cuisine. You will never be disappointed,” they were actually right. Though the price may be superior than any other music bars, their quality and size makes it up. Who would've thought of a Php330-priced nachos were good enough for a pulutan dish while enjoying live music for hours?

However, their dynamite is something I have been really a fan of. At 250 pesos, this six-piece snack dish could be one of the most hottest dynamites I have ever taken with (or maybe that's just my preference).

And frankly, no matter how busy the night goes, their staff is very helpful in providing tables to guests; something that has been their huge difference compared to other bars whenever I was asked by paying entrants if there were tables available at the venue.

The only problem I had here, I admit, is the accessibility. If you ride a bus bounding to Alabang via SLEX, drop yourself off at Sucat and walk upstairs across the long-wining footbridge en route to East service road. However, it will take you around 10-15 minutes. And if you don't like taking long walks, I suggest you alight at Bicutan and take a jeep in the East service road and pray that traffic bounding to the Sucat intersection will not be horrible.

No wonder why 19 East earned that moniker. They've got a lot of space yet retaining the same intimacy  feel and sophisticating live music setup which everyone can experience and enjoy.

Verdict: 9/10
