The Rundown Slam: WWE Backlash 2017

It seemingly WWE Backlash came too early, with barely eight months since their laatest staging on September 2016, with the coronation of AJ Styles as the WWE Champion; thus, saving themselves from already the unstable-than-supposedly-unstable development of their previous kingpin Dean Ambrose.

And it's good that The Perfect Ten got his PPV match, though on the kickoff potion. And that somewhat spoiled Aiden English's solo cameo.

Shinsuke Nakamura starting the match with Dolph Ziggler may sound typical, considering of the latter pulling off the stops. But it wasn't the spectacular as a lot would have expected. It turned out to be somewhere between a spectacular and a-okay.

Fashion Files tried to be at their funniest, but somehow falter in the middle. And that made me unable to take the tag team championship match  either seriously or a laughing matter.

Sami Zayn and Baron Corbin just built the former's character and the latter's misstep towards his eventual emergence as a championship contender. Somehow it was an a-okay match, and the finish felt a bit rushed.

The welcoming committee proved why they are a force to reckon, but it seems to me that this faction – though not imploding – remained a short-term, literally just a “welcoming committee.” Great thing to notice Carmella's slowly emergence, and the Natalya and Tamina proving they still have a lot left in the  tank.

This US Title match between Kevin Owens and AJ Styles was the standout for the evening. Yes, despite the different countout finish. It may look dismayed from a typical wrestling fan, but somehow this both how they built both of them strong as the pillar characters of the current SmackDown Live scenery. That simply showed how Styles' a contender regardless of the booking level.

Owens' Face of America run will definitely be a longer one, and hope they do well.

The Erick Rowan-Luke Harper match looked like another SmackDown filer that has given the slot intended for anyone who has enough snacks and nothing left in their bladders.

The main event turned out to be a-okay with WWE pulling it in favor of a lot of fans all over the world. Is that counted as the upset of the year? It actually looked like one, but it isn't. Yes, even if he looked to be the underdog kind of heel here in this booking. Is this the right move? Certainly it is. Randy Orton has been shoved like Reigns after winning the Royal Rumble match and eventually winning the title at The Ultimate Thrill Ride. I feel sorry he was booked almost similar the way of Bray Wyatt's.

Somehow, Orton's aggressiveness has been the last gasp, but to no avail.

And the superstar shake-up has seemingly derailed the plans for most part SD. And Backlash became the first documented casualty of it.

The Verdict: 7.1
