This weekend will be the biggest gathering of the year for collectors of all kind as the 1st National Swap Meet is taking place at the SMX Convention Center in SM Aura, Taguig City, from August 25-27, 2017.
Also dubbed as “For Collectors, By Collectors,” The three-day event features a vast display of collectibles ranging from majorities of toys (such as action figures), books and other print materials, other antique and vintage items, and other curiosities that will surely await serious collectors and hobbyists for purchase, swap, or even auction.
Aside from that, an exciting program of activities aiming to provide entertainment, fun, and games, as well as talks and workshops relating to being a hobbyist will be staged over the weekend.
But that's not all: The 1st National Swap Meet exercises social responsibility through Toys for Marawi, an initiative which aims to address the pressing need to mental stimulation and psychological healing for the children gravely affected by the ongoing conflict at Marawi City, wherein trauma therapists have recommended the distribution of toys for these children now in cramped conditions at evacuation centers.
“There are non-government organizations and peace-advocacy groups that can help us out on this. Any help shall be highly appreciated,” said Vice Gov. Haroun Al-Rashid Lucman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), who is also a Maranao and the region's social welfare secretary.
“We are knocking on the hearts of parents and children in peaceful regions to donate used toys, but not toy guns or anything of the sort,” added ARMM health secretary Kadil Sinolinding Jr.
That said, the Pinoy Toy Groups Association has pledged that they will donate toys for the children in the affected city. The donation boxes will be placed around the event so that visitors can also have the opportunity to share the love and give kids a new life. The event organizers urge everyone to help and support this cause, as even the smallest act of charity creates a ripple that impacts the greater good.
