The Rundown Slam: WWE Great Balls Of Fire

08/28/2017 08:44:38 PM

At first, the World Wrestling Entertainment might have made a biggest mistake in recent memory when they go for a pay-per-view title that looke dlike a soundtrack of that 50s hit by Jerry Lee Lewis and made themselves – specifically, the flagship division of Monday Night RAW – a joke.

But frankly, WWE's Great Ball of Fire, the red brand's exclusive PPV held in July, proved how RAW has been regaining back in terms of keeping up with SmackDown Live.

And as always, while the RAW PPVs may not deliver in their “excellent” selves, with endings either going flat or abruptly a bummer. But the show was overall above average, with the Iron Man match for the tag team championships being the standout for the evening, with the ambulance match going way freaking brutal (for obvious buzz-making reasons). That bring out the best of Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman, and has given shades of Steve Austin and Rikishi during the Attitude era days.

And while reports said that Brock Lesnar was happy with the turnout of the main event, I think this proved how Brock has been shown signs of vulnerability. And he just managed to survived the tornado. Or maybe it's because he is now booked as a smashing monster babyface against the sneaky assassin Samoa Joe. And also, that shows how such a big versatile guy like Joe can have what it takes to be a champion.

The RAW women's championship ended up on a countout and that has paved an extension of their rivalry. And the aftermath may have gone beyond what we expect. But somehow, this proved that aside from Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks, it seems only Bayley can fare them very well with them for the Women's contendership. Shame on the writers.

Overall, Great Balls of Fire may have not delivered excellence in all of their matches, but they have a lot of pre- and post-match shenanigans that seemingly living up to their namesake. RAW is on the roll.

Verdict: 8.7
