Overview of WrestleMania (Photo credits: The Wrap) |
For all the time, WrestleMania is the World Wrestling Entertainment's premier show that will be held annually.
Make no mistake about it: the show had a perfect start and the momentum sustained and it didn't really felt dragging... except for the main event where everything appears to be physically vicious yet sluggish as fuck. I don't know if it's just me, but the context of the match looked similarly to that of SummerSlam 2016. And the sudden ditch of Roman Reigns for Brock Lesnar for retaining the Universal Championship made it worse. Like why this damn title contest should be placed dead last?
It was supposed to be for the WWE championship itself, right? They certainly didn't follow the context of the Royal Rumble anymore. Speaking of which... I think that “dream match” between AJ Styles and Shisuke Nakamura fell a bit flat at the end, only for it to be rekindled by a low blow that solidify Nakamura's heel turn in a snap.
Safe to say this feud is not over.
It's saddening that Asuka lost to Charlotte for the SmackDown championship, but I guess streaks are meant to be broken at New Orleans, just like what happened to the Beast Incarnate and the Deadman four years ago. Speaking of the latter...
The Undertaker returned and while it obviously generated a huge pop from 78 thousand people inside the Silverdome Superdome, what's new? John Cena evolved from a fan into being a jobber, and given the 13-matched WrestleMania, it's not that hard why they could only do so little time in a very stacked show.
I don't know, but we could probably see a rematch between the two soon... and obviously, at another WrestleMania gig.
Seth Rollins – and his blue contacts – is a grandslam champion. We have a new cruiserweight champion after a match that has been relegated again in.the preshow (and that's disgusting). Nia Jax win is as expected, and they proved why she is ripe enough for winning the RAW Women's Champion at the Show of Shows.
Braun Strowman and a young kid named Nicholas became tag team champions that has made the hardcores and smarks raise their eyebrows for treating the red brand's tag team division a joke for a night. The Bludgeon Brothers proved themselves why they are a legitimate threat for SmackDown Live tag team division, and this almost-squashing win is just the first leaf of their tales of domination.
Daniel Bryan has rejuvenated the Miracle on Borubon Street, and that has hand Shane McMahon his first victory since returning to his dad's promotion two years ago. Sad there's no leap of faith, though. Finn Balor may not have been on his demon self – and that made the mark in me disappointed for a while. However, with the timely theme that contains the message “Balor Club is for everyone,” the intro served its purpose well at the grandest stage of them all. Not bad. Matt Hardy winning the Andre the Giant battle royal with that assist from Bray Wyatt, and the latter has formally pledged their allegiance. Looks like it will be another mind game affair.
But Ronda Rousey proved why she isn't just another blockbuster name for nothing. After months of being under the ire for obviously newcomer-related reasons, the former UFC women's bantamweight champion why she belong in the squared circle with the RAW GM Kurt Angle, and the powerful couple of Stephanie McMahon and Triple H (who had another rehashed entrance from Mania 33. Hats off to her. Heck, even critics hail her performance gave the four of them the match of the night.
Overall, WrestleMania staging seven hours wasn't really that bad. They have a solid start despite some minimal mishaps – including that typographical error that made AJ Styles a *dual-title holder, LOL*. Except for that main event, the show didn't look dragging at all, and that's a good job considering the duration they have putted up.
The Verdict: 7.6
