Hey, the World Wrestling Entertainment should've provide the finest and premiere elite kind of sports entertainment, right? It's no secret that they are the top wrestling company in the world. They are the summit that almost every wrestler aspires to be with.
But in recent months, their product has been mostly less spectacular. WrestleMania should've been their redeeming factor after an array of lack-lusting efforts in showcasing events, and they are steering towards that direction until its main event.
Take the Saudi's Greatest Royal Rumble out of the equation for a while. The E's first usual-PPV special called Backlash has been a mediocre of sorts. While the “it's complicated best friend-ship” between Bayley and Sasha Banks has turned a new leap, a lot of matches in the main card absolutely sucked.
We got a showcase of veterans for the US Championship and what did we actually got after it? Nothing: not even an RKO #outtanowhere has been present. The second defense for Jeff Hardy's current championship has been less sensible and nothing much significant compared to his first with Jinder Mahal (albeit the obvious roster assignment).
The 4-man tag team match were even perceived first as a randomly booked one. If it weren't for the entertaining antics of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, that segment would totally suck either. And if there's one good thing about the RAW women's championship match (aside from the revenge of the petite troublemaker), it was Nia Jax and the anti-bullying campaign promo she made during post-match. At least, Backlash as a title has made a lot of sense for a few seconds.
Carmella's title defense against Charlotte seemingly rushed either, and Carmella only get the pinfall finish after kicking the Queen's hamstring looks lacking at will. While we all know that Seth Rollins will keep the IC title on RAW, his championship defense against The Miz has at least put fuel to the fire. Unfortunately, this is the only BACKLASH match that really lived up to expectations. These two can put up a show.
The third duel for the WWE Championship between champion AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura has ended in a double-countout again – yes, despite the no-DQ stipulation. Makes me wanna think that even if the feud has felt already dragging and suck, the characters will go on a double-cross (and I hope not). After all, we have seen these two going low for almost 20 minutes.
The main event between Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns has fell off and flat, no matter how solid these two can put up. After all, watching a four-hour (or even five) wrestling program is dragging as fuck. If people didn't left the building, they could've notice how The Big Dog 'tapped out' to the Destroyer (or the latter's hold was too tight to be not reconsidered as part of their storytelling).
No wonder why Backlash fell down as one of the worst PPVs in recent memory. Hell, they could even go head-to-head with last year's Battleground for such distinction.
