The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) waged a show at the King Abdullah Sports Stadium in Saudi Arabia in support to the country's ways to promote sports and entertainment to the world. Hence, enter The Greatest Royal Rumble into the equation.
Fifty men juggled in position to be the winner of this gigantic gauntlet match. And after 77 minutes, it was Braun Strowman who emerged at the pinnacle of success; living to his moniker The Monster Among Men. It was a well-deserved win for this babyface who entered #29 and was probably the second hand-picked by many to win the match aside from the iron man named Daniel Bryan.
I'm not really shocked when he wound up eliminated by Big Cass as they were set to do another scuffle come Backlash and this is just another page in their story.
Meanwhile, John Cena and Triple H squared off without any build-up and has somehow putted up a decent classic. While the other matches were deemed obvious considering the results of the latest Superstar Shake-up.
Still, Seth Rollins retaining the title in a cartoonic fashion has got me laughing for minutes. He literally snatched his belt away from Finn Balor and this should've brew a new leaf in their feud soon. While we all know that The Deleter of Worlds will win the RAW Tag Team titles anyway and The Bludgeon Brothers obviously retain the belts against The Usos for SmackDown. Do I need to say more? Hell, even Jeff Hardy's win for his US Title defense against Jinder Mahal is already predictable as planned and executed. Nothing really surprising there.
At least Rusev and Aiden English were buried softly by The Undertaker. Heck, Mean Mark had done a lot of moves than his sudden square-off with John Cena.
The match between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura end up in a double count-out. And no matter how unpopular it may seem, it was kinda god enough to save this feud for weeks and months, especially they will fight again in Backlash anyway. I wish they could culminate this rivalry by either Extreme Rules or SummerSlam. After all, with the nutcracking and steel chair shots they planted on one another, there's no chance they would do another typical singles championship match.
The story between Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar just proved how the big dog can't really tame the beast, and it was dragging as fuck. However, the steel cage for the Universal Championship match wound up in a sort of controversy: who really hit the floor first? This just confuse the shit out of me as it appear that Roman Reigns' foot hit the floor first.
But with the officials relying more on their kind of judgment, it appears that Lesnar hit the floor first – all that despite his feet on the wrecked portion of the cage. By the looks, Reigns can't really win the big one and felt cheated. Should this pull the trigger to become a mad man? Better hope he could do so against Samoa Joe. If he remains to his babyface schtick, good luck Vince... expect more jeers coming.
The Greatest Royal Rumble may be a one-night off, but hope it doesn't necessarily rip any of the big-4 PPVs of WWE soon, especially with this duration (Hell, who would've thought of putting up a 5-hour show aside from WrestleMania, damn it?). Great, fun show to say the least.
The Verdict: 8/10
