After attaining a number of success on-stage and on-film, Changing Partners is back for another run this month at the PETA-Phinma Theater in Quezon City.
Agot Isidro, Jojit Lorenzo, Anna Luna and Sandino Marcos are back as the four-person acting ensemble portraying eight characters in a story depicting a May-December love affair.
Originally presented as part of the Virgin Labfest in 2016 and once staged as A Torch Musical (also at the same year), Changing Partners made it to the shores of Philippine cinema through the direction Dan Villegas at the Cinema One Originals 2017 and has bagged eight accolades there, including Best Director (Villegas), Best Music (DeJesus), Best Actress (Isidro), Best Actor (Lorenzo), Best Acting Ensemble, Best Editing (Marya Ignacio) and even the coveted Audience Choice and Champion Bughaw for Best Film awards.
The musical movie also had a run in commercial cinemas in January 2018 and managed to take home five trophies by the following month, or on the Independent Film Category of the 34th Movie Press Club of the Philippines – Star Awards 2018. Plus its soundtrack was produced by Star Records and featured Star Music artists KZ Tandingan, Jona Viray, Khalil Ramos, and Daryl One.
In addition, Changing Partners' success has reached overseas when California-based The Bindlestiff Studio produced and performned the musical as part of its Tagalog Theater Festival with several Fil-American actors filling the cast.
And while Changing Partners has surpassed expectations with its list of achievements over the past two years, playwright/musical director Vincent DeJesus and director Rem Zamora said they are expecting to push the envelope with this current restaging. With the bigger venue (400-seater) and the reprisal of roles, the team behind this gut-wrenching, anti-romcom musical will have Ben Padero as their production designer and cellist Poch Gutierrez who will accompany DeJesus in providing live music accompaniment. Padero is also known for designing the set of PETA's adaptation of Marsha Norman's “Night, Mother.”
