StopOver: saGuijo

You're not a gig goer in Metro Manila today if you haven't even heard of the word saGuijo. Or rather, if you have not paid them a visit yet.

Located inside the residential vicinity of San Antonio and derived from the street name itself, saGuijo has been the premier venue for music of all sorts.  You can't complete the definition of nightlife in this place without hearing the loudest staple name of that house inside the relatively-quiet village near the business district.

And it may not look like your typical bistro, but this bar and restaurant has the looks of a typical residential building been the house to many prods and acts, plus anything in between the life of the local music scene.

For almost 1 ½ decades, this bar has catered to their regular organizers such as Revolver Productions, DaMoDaMerrier, SonicLogo.TV, while having a history of good times with the likes of IndieManila, Red Ninja Production, Docdef Productions, Raccoon Productions, Swavesound, WATUP, RadioManila, Final Round Promotions x Project 4 Productions, Play 4 Serve, Lakihan Mo Logo, Soupstar Entertainment, and a whole lot more.

The music may not sound (technically) perfect at all times, with technical difficulties endured at a random point in time which may cause delays in the programs held, or sometimes leading to blunders along the way. Still, for most of the times, the sound system is suitable enough for one to drop by for a set of two.

Tables are quite limited inside but they have a few of them outside if all you want to do is to unwind. The music are loud enough to reach your ears whether you're behind the glass window or at the gate itself.

Price rates for beer are relatively high, though. Imagine for a pint of pale for 88 pesos – just 12 pesos lower than of those high-end music pubs. So if you are on a cheap thrill, having 1 or 2 can quench your thirst. The bar chows are quite good, though. At less than 400 pesos, you can already gun for a crispy pata (unless you're high-blood). The price for sisig may be quite high, but certainly gives you its worth as well.

Shooting for photos here are quite challenging, too. It takes a lot of patience for the timing (not just on the performers but of its lightings as well) to capture moments.

And with the growing number of hangout places around this district, saGuijo has remained intact and will be recognized as the iconic house of music in Makati City. And this house may not be perfect, but was good enough to be called the home of live music. Hell, sometimes I feel like saGuijo has been my homecourt for its overall feel.

The Verdict: 8.3
