It was the past month of July when known singer Julie Anne San Jose proudly released her top and first album under Universal Records called Breakthrough.
The record made it to the digital platforms this past 27 July 2018. And it was followed by a grand album launch party at Eastwood Mall Open Park in Quezon City which led to an impressive amount of pre-orders and sales figures – just backing up the skyrocketing statistics of her three singles and further proving the star's staying power.
Breakthrough comprised of seven tracks, including original tracks 'Nothing Left,' 'Tayong Dalawa,' and a hit rendition of Parokya Ni Edgar's 'Your Song (My One and Only You).' These two songs have made it to the #1 spot of iTunes Philippines All-Genre Chart just 20 minutes after release, while the latter has been streamed for over 30 million times on Spotify as of early August.
The entire album sports a contemporary take on the pop-genre – a R&b-infused flavor backing San Jose's powerful soul voice – which aims to reach a wider and younger audience. Completing this record are previously-unreleased tracks 'Recall,' 'Ways,' 'Love The Way You love,' and 'Down For Me,' a collaboration track with Spotify viral singer-songwriter-producer Fern.
And just like its singles, Breakthrough has reached multiple achievements from the get-go. The album debuted at #1 on the iTunes Philippines All-Genre Charts and stayed there for a whole week – an impressive feat rarely seen on any albums from the Philippine music scene.
“I'm happy and grateful to have worked on this album as I get to explore a new world [of music.] I've always wanted to contribute my music to this generation, so I hope people enjoy this new sound and genre I am going for,” said San Jose.
