Barely two months from the initial
reveal, PhilPop has announced its roster of interpreters for the 2018
edition of the Philippine Pop Music Festival. And with the theme
“Music. Powered by Pinoys,” the foundation keeps on growing to
defy expectations by championing homegrown talents from various music
genres and diverse backgrounds.
The thirty song interpreters were
handpicked by its songwriters. A number of them are either known or
staple names in the recording industry, while some of the other
semi-final entries were interpreted by its own songwriters. Among the
notable ones to render their voices are Bayang Barrios, Yumi
Lacsamana, Thyro Alfaro,The Juans, Gracenote's vocalist Eunice Jorge,
Leanne and Naara, BennyBunnyBand, and Caci Bautista.

All of the interpreted versions of the
songs and the interpreters themselves were formally introduced during
the Philpop Reveal and Listening Party last September 12 at the 2nd
floor of Cafe 1771, Pasig City. It was also during the program when
Festival Chairman and Philpop Board Member Mr. Ryan Cayabyab stressed
the importance of regional inclusivity and giving voice to underrated
artists whose compositions have the potential to impact the Filipino
people's soul. The Maestro also expressed the foundation's advocacy
that is to promote top-notch Filipino music that matters.
"This year, we are happy to launch
30 songs that represent stories, struggles, ambitions, and dreams of
people like us. We look forward to listen and enjoy these wonderful
compositions," said Cayabyab. "Rest assured that we will
stay true to our commitment to look for talented songwriters and give
them a platform to realize their dreams of seeing their songs across
the nation."
Meanwhile, the recording counterpart of
the foundation, Viva Records, has supervised the official recording
of the songs which has been made available on digital platforms
YouTube and Spotify on this past Monday, 17 September 2018, at 12
noon.
From this stage on, only ten entries
will advance to the final round wherein they will be judged according
to the following criteria: 50% judges screening, 25% online
streaming, and 25% Smart's People Choice Award voting through SMS and
Twitter's conversational ad.
The top 10 will be revealed via
PhilPop's social media pages and website on 22 October 2018; from
there, they will be given a chance to showcase the said original
composition as interpreted by the chosen music acts on the PhilPop
Festival Finals Night that will be held 30 November 2018 at Capitol
Commons in Pasig City.
