Author's Note: The following is a post written by my alternate variant, known as The Alcoholic Photographer, as he, on my behalf, covered the June Lovejoy Cafe event held last October at Century City Mall in Makati City. Let's read what went around the event.
Cosplay fans were in for a treat as AV actor, voice actor, producer, and cosplayer June Lovejoy hosted a 2-day meet and greet event on Sept 30 to Oct 1, 2023, at Century City Mall in Brgy. Bel-Air, Makati City.
With the event aptly titled Lovejoy Cafe, June Lovejoy, plus other guests Saltie and Negi Kujyo, meet their fans over the weekend. I arrived at the open area of the fourth level of that mall by lunchtime on Saturday to cover this festivity.
The weather felt like summer in September because it was still humid even as the sun went down. Still, despite the heat, the trio welcomed their adoring fans. More fans eventually arrived, especially when the Rev Majors nears its conclusion that afternoon. From there, people engaged with the trio of famous guests, and some would even buy exclusive event merchandise, including the best-selling shirts and autographed prints of June, Saltie, and Negi.
For two days, our distinguished guests happily interacted with their respective fanbase by meeting them and signing almost anything -- including body parts. As I wind down on covering this event, all I can say is nothing but smiles came out of anyone leaving the Lovejoy Cafe. Well, just stating the obvious since they met their idol. So, who can blame them? I would do the same if Charess or Alodia were there and spent 5 to 10 minutes with me.
Also, the Manila Wrestling Federation had a booth next to the Lovejoy cafe, which means hitting two birds with one stone if you're a fan of both cosplay and wrestling. Just imagine that aside from getting June, Saltie, and Negi's autographs, you get an autograph from the MWF Champion Fabio Makisig as well. “Buy 1 Take 1 kumbaga,” as we say in Filipino.
All in all, Lovejoy Cafe may be a very exhausting event, but it was also fun at the same time. I haven't covered cosplay in a while, so this was a breath of fresh air. That said, I can't wait for them to do this again next year, especially after seeing Negi and June’s Content.
Post-script: All of the photos in this blog post were taken by The Alcoholic Photographer, who also shoot for bands like Mojofly and Row Keys, to name a few. You may check out his works by just searching his name on both Facebook and Instagram. Special thanks to Mr. Mike Yu and my friend BJ David for letting TSF cover this event.
