PlayBack: Breē – A Dream Of Sunrise (album)

11/29/2024 08:38:33 PM

In almost a decade of following the scene and discovering new bands, Breē is probably one of the most resounding yet underrated names in the last couple of years, and it's solely because of two things: (1) their experimental approach through their heavy-duty drum-dominated plus three-guitar work (four, if you count the bass guitar) and ambient textures on the background that make up for their immersive live experience; and (2) their persistence on marketing their craft which can reach to a somewhat unbelievably relentless degree.

After releasing their first fruits of labor, the Dream EP in 2022 and being signed by Offshore Music in 2023, Breē keeps on making further noise, resulting into a 10-track full length album called A Dream On Sunrise. As if launching the album on May 2024 wasn't enough, this indie alternative act  embarked on a massive island tour in a span of six months.

This ulterior move, perhaps, makes up for why the record appears to be heard best while going in a mellow speed on the road at the wee hours. That or maybe just wandering around by either sunrise or sunset – especially if either Haze, Cabin or Dream is blaring off the speakers. Most songs there speak nothing but an immersive kind of optimism and respite – a fresh start of sorts – for all the ones who deem themselves as misfits and dreamers.

While it may not be a pop-sounding kind of tea or jam for many, Breē's A Dream Of Sunrise is still a 36-minuter that's worth the try, a refreshing take on a breezy kind of alternative music, even if it appears it was done through a bunch of complicated instrumental works.

The Verdict: 8/10
