The Breed celebrates 35 years of loud rock music with their Anniversary Show this Sunday at 19 East!

This Sunday night's gonna be rock and loud as The Breed will celebrate their 35th anniversary show at 19 East in Sucat, Muntinlupa City.

Hailed as “The Original Lords of Loud,” The Breed came at the time of the decade of Filipino bands from various genres making waves in the industry. Although they've been on a very long hiatus at one point in their lives, the band had its own resurrection in 2022, when frontman Charlie Ysmael and company recorded their newest album in 25 years, Against the Light of Day.

What keep them going even they were gone for almost two-and-a-half decades? “It's the 'heart,'” Ysmael said when I talked to him and the band during their gig last month at The Roadhouse Manila Bay.

As the 90s saw the massive band explosion, especially from the pop-rock and alternative side like Parokya Ni Edgar, Eraserheads, Yano, Rizal Underground, Truefaith, The Youth and Rivermaya; there were more groups which showcased the heavy sound of Filipino-made rock music like Teeth, The Dawn, Wolfgang, Razorback, Agaw Agimat, and Siakol, to name a few. This is also where The Breed –  has been part of from its inception in 1989 to its initial disbandment in 1998.

And though Ysmael was the known man and voice of the band, there was one particular person which fans became fond of the Breed – their then-loud-playing guitarist, the late Manny Amador. Two members in Johnny Besa and Larry Dy-Liacco completes the roster. Since its resurrection, The Breed has undergone lineup changes, and currently consists of Charlie himself, Jun Lazo, Mike Bewer, and Ian Trinidad.

It may be different from what it used to be in the '90s, but The Breed would still keep on rocking along with their comrades who will join them on this special night, namely: Razorback, Basti Artadi, Rizal Underground, Dong Abay Music Organization, and PigDog. This event by Stellar Productions will have two hosts – Laura Jane and (virtually) “The Doctor” Ramon Zialcita. Tickets are priced at 1,500 pesos.

This is one night set to be one of the last but loudest gigs for the year, for all the rockin' kids at heart!
