Strangely, if Wikipedia is right, The Bloomfields should be 22 years old by now. But I guess, we will not count the two years that the pandemic has robbed us. So, we shouldn't be surprised at all, huh?
I first heard about The Bloomfields back in 2007 when their tunes – their original single Wala Nang Iba and their cover of Bodjie Dasig-written hit song Ale – made waves on the radio. But it was 11 years later, when Cris Ramos of REVOLVER Productions booked them for a gig in saGuijo, and the first song I heard when I barged through the door was Express Highway. It also marked the first time for them to return to perform in production-organized bar gigs,
Since 2018, I have been following (although sporadically) The Bloomfields for the latter part of the decade – a part of it including the launch of their album A Drop Into The Blue last 2019 at then-Historia Boutique Bar and Restaurant in South Triangle, Quezon City. The Beatles and 60s-inspired rock band eventually went on to sign with the indie music label Lilystars Records a few years later. Although, the change on lineup took place: Dino Pasual went solo, and Nathan Abella came on board, with his father Rey Abella of The Jerks joining them occasionally.
October 2024 was quite an eventful month, at least for Lilystars Records. Orange & Lemons just had their silver anniversary concert on the 18th, then a week later came The Bloomfields celebrating their two decades of rock and roll music. They did it through staging a special milestone event at Fin & Claw in Timog Avenue, Quezon City.
Not only they had High Targets, Orange & Lemons, Bandman, and Pascual (going solo set) on the billed performers; The Bloomfields went on for an double extra-long set (and rightfully so) with a supersized band as their former comrade joined them on stage for the rest of the evening, plus two young people who jammed with them to cap the two-hour long evening of merry making!
It's a surreal experience to see the convergence among the past and present members being on a podium with all their hits from their original discography (be it a staple hit or new singles) to their popular covers ranging from The Beatles to even select Filipino hit songs like Ale and Babaero. Man, their set-list must've been really stacked.
Some of us can probably imagine what it feels like if they celebrate another milestone anniversary concert soon, if that's the case.
