Throwback Post: Why Iron Man Is Better Than Superman (And Any Other Superhero Movie) On 2013?

8/2/2013 11:14:53 AM

Apparently, this was a super-late post made through my drafts. Yes, it's been stuck for a year. Now, I know that Spiderman and X-Men were ruling the superhero movie scene (no doubt). But since I'll publish this on everyone's favorite throwback day named as Thursday, oh, well...

I heard some comparisons between superheroes on which of them really emerged for this year. A little says “Iron Man is the coolest.” And the other would say “No. Superman is always way better than iron Man.”

Though I have to admit – comparing these two toughies may be unfair, as:

The Finale Rematch

6/7/2014 10:57:36 AM

It’s on again, like an Alicia Keys and Kendrick Lamar soundtrack, as after one exhilarating season accompanied by tune-up changes in roster and several off-court controversies as well as shifting of records, statistical averages and awards garnered, it all comes down to one grand finale—two teams squaring off against each other once again.

10 Worthless Stories of 2013

1/21/2014 12:55:26 PM

Flicks For Picks: 11 movies for 2013

11/9/2013 12:05:12 AM

I have seen eleven movies for this year. And it’s very rare for somebody like me to watch movies on the cinemas for that kind of number.

And if you asked me on what are my best picks for flicks for the year two thousand thirteen, let me remind you that everything that you will read on this post, was all just my opinion.

Here are my rankings for that:

13 For 2013 – The Very Best

12/29/2013 11:25:28 AM

As the year 2013 comes to a close, and out of 358 posts made by yours truly, here are my thirteen posts that are... well, my personal favorite. I used to wonder though why should I do the culmination via this one. But anyway, the list is not based on how many hits do an article have. I repeat, it’s all my choice. Go it? Good.

Bustin’ Blocks (The Notable WWE Matches in 2013)

12/13/2013 3:37:04 PM

I first wrote this shit a few days before the last most-awaited electrifying showdown in Houston, Texas. However, I might update this thing soon, or maybe I’ll work on a part two to cope up with the other fights that I personally missed watching due to low reception of my free TV channel here at home and unavailability to access the other clips on the internet as well.

Okay, I might be a toughie. But I have to admit, my elementary classmates were even tougher than I do if we’re talking about knowledge in the sport of wrestling, the entire World Wrestling Entertainment and its superstars.

And it’s only this year when I managed to have some time watching the huge events on free TV, just like the old days when Channel 9 is still doing the boyish, if not equally-gendered broadcast programming. Yes, thanks to my now-defunct Cherry Mobile unit that has a free TV feature, I can managed to catch a thing on Studio 23 during its WWE broadcast.

But I’ll also give credit to my father for he granted our wish for more sensible programming thru Destiny Cable. Yes, in case you still rant “Why for the motherfucking hell sakes, the Smackdown is not airing on our local TV?” I can only give you an answer: Try FOX channel – I mean the Philippine version (it’s different from Fox Filipino).

Nah, forget the “scripted” reason though; I’ll say these are the best battles I have seen in the world of sports-entertainment known as WWE.

Sound Bites: Statements of 2013

11/28/2013 3:53:57 PM

The Scene Around: 2013 Miss Earth Press Conference

12/‎15/‎2013 08:29:18 AM

Forgive me for posting such events a little bit late than the usual, but here's something that me and my fellow writers on both Definitely Filipino and Kicker Daily websites have spotted last month.

Along with the hundreds of media personnel and as well as bloggers in attendance, we flocked the vicinity of F1 Hotel in Bonifacio Global City for the yearly edition of Miss Earth 2013. Carousel Productions organized the entire series of events.

“Liquor Ban” Your Face!

10/27/2013 11:04:05 AM

Miley's Twerking? So Mainstream!

09072013 | 0156PM

Just a short tirade on this hot issue that circulated the Hollywood for the past few weeks.

If there is one thing that what people should know about Miley Cyrus' controversial twerking during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards: it is not that totally disturbing, but certainly, it's not a cool act to follow either.

Why did I say that?

Aftermath Of A Loss

8/5/2013 1:28:59 PM

Come from behind ang resulta pabor sa CT, 84-79.

The Review: Despicable Me 2

7/21/2013 11:10:31 AM Sunday

The minions have gone crazy again, eh? The only good problem though is that they’re more and they’re even despicable unlike Gru.

Months prior to the showing of this movie, the Philippines became one of the nations who seemed to get struck under the influence and cravings for minion. They’re all over the places – toy stores, every single McDonald’s chain, and even funny photos circulating the social media – be it an user’s profile photo or just a timeline post of a look-alike-slash-twin-brother-separated-at-birth to the nation’s president or even to one of the society’s premier talk show host (does BA-BA-BA-BUZZ ring a bell?).

I saw the first installment of the Despicable Me motion picture franchise a few weeks ago, and ended up with symptoms of a mentally retarded child running all over me. Heck, kidding aside, I envied Pharell William’s genes for scoring and making music for these films. Good job for that then 37-year old fella, who appeared to lost his oars on the mainstream shores when the pop music went “bubblegum” for too much.

Okay, fast forward track to 2013, please?

Playback: Joey Ayala – "Papel"

7/19/2013 4:45:35 PM

As in parehong literal at piguratiba na ibig sabihin.

The Review: Oblivion

7:06:49 PM | 5/30/2013| Thursday

Talk about post-apocalyptic days and the remaining survivor earthlings, eh?

Oblivion, another science fiction movie that showcases Tom Cruise’s crusade to live another day on the planet Earth – on the after-apocalyptic age. Story-wise speaking, it’s about five decades from the present time.

The King's Ascension To The Throne.

11:54:22 PM | 6/24/2013 | Monday

It was for all the marbles. It’s more known as the do-or-die match, or sudden death, or much simpler term, “the decider.” This is the Game 7 of the Championship series of the National Basketball Association between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs. The very last game of the 2012-2013 NBA season. One last game to play. One last game to watch. To witness the last two teams standing at that point.

One will rise and one will fall. One will earn a legitimate bragging right, one will lose it. One will rise in the history, while the other falls and will end their season on a broken note, as both legacies will be on the line. There’s no such thing as “records,” “statistics,” and even the so-called “winning tradition.”

Clutch Game

11:49:29 PM | 6/20/2013 | Thursday

Of all the games that went on for this year’s NBA Finals, this seems that the Game 6 was the best of them all so far.

Look, Tim Duncan played the first half as if he was not on his 37-year-old self. How about a 25-point and 8-rebound effort, for the 15 year veteran? And that stat was before halftime, by the way.

Second half, we saw the old LeBron, the more energized one, the one that really carried the team on his shoulders like the way he did on his stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers? He scored more than 20 of his 32 points came on the second half and overtime, despite committing huge mistakes down the stretch. He had a triple double to accompany his usual large number of markers.

Heat Wave (The Miami Heat’s Road to the 2013 NBA Finals)

1:47:39 PM | 6/20/2013 | Thursday

(Author’s note: The Miami Heat may emerged as the 2013 BA Champions if they will win the Game 7 on Thursday night in Miami, Florida (or Friday morning time at Manila, Philippines).

Miami Heat had come a long way to go before assembling big stars with talents and earned that bragging right to be labeled as one of the “champions” in the National Basketball Association. Yes, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh was the second team to be branded as “the Big Three” in the league’s recent era. 2 years after the Boston Celtics’’ own version of triumvirate was made with Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

Defensive Dominance (The San Antonio Spurs' Run To The 2013 NBA Finals)

11:16:51 PM | 5/28/2013

Author's note: (re-updated 6/19/2013 2:32:57 PM) as of this writing, the Spurs are on the verge of winning the NBA title if they will win Game 7 at Thursday Night in Miami (Friday morning, Manila time)

They’re quiet, they worked under the radar, and more than being either the “underdog” or “dark horse,” they will just surprise you with their winning ways. Perhaps very rare number of people, if not “nobody,” talked about this team, which defied signs of aging, just to compete and win games… yes, even if they’re one of those few teams that are already been mainly treated as the “elders” at the current NBA generation. I am talking about this defense-oriented team by the name of the San Antonio Spurs.

Flick Review: Fast and Furious 6

11:14:50 PM | 6/17/2013 | Monday

All roads lead to this!

Dom’s crew is back, and they’re up for something good. Luke Hobbs, a diplomatic agent, hunted the main man Dominic Toretto and wanted him for a mission, and they will be cleared (I’m talking about pardon on their criminal records) in exchange.

That is to take down a group of skilled mercenary drivers which runs around London, Spain and other countries as well (they’re 12 in total). They have to beat Owen Shaw, even if Letty Ortiz is also parts of that supposedly big catch.

Vintage: Manu Ginobili

3:11:37 PM | 6/17/2013 | Monday

Dwyane Wade’s a la ’06 effort was matched up well with Manu Ginobili’s epic act during the 2005 Finals.

He struggled on his shooting during the previous playoff games. And he’s on very usual off-the-bench roles. More than that, he’s been a huge disappointment for some of the fans, just 34 percent on his shooting and averaged just 7.5 points prior to the fifth contest.

That went on until Greg Poppovich adjusted something that went into the Argentinean’s favor.
