The Scene Around: Farewell Fair Weather @ MONOCHAPOSIS (2015)

09/22/2016 04:00:06 AM

It's quite funny, I just managed to post this entry but it happened already a year ago. Not really coinciding with the birthday of this band's vocalist (or might run a bit late, since it's a throwback post).

Why did I say so? Because once upon a time, I was part of a band entourage. Well, at least for an evening. And it felt like those episodes of programs which tackles fan-meets-idol or star-interacts-with-fan for a day.

As of this writing, tomorrow will be another celebration for awesome music—well, in both physical and spiritual forms—as Satchmi will be holding their Vinyl Day tomorrow, 30 April 2016 at UP Town Center.

But on this edition of Flashback Friday, let's go back to 2015 where the vinyl store held their annual edition of Viny Day held Saturday the 11th of April at the Amphitheater of Bonifacio High Street in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

Weeknights to Remember: SlickMaster’s Memorable Gigs of 2015 (Part 4)

12/31/2015 3:00:36 PM

The post was supposed to be named Fridays and Saturday Nights to Remember only to realized a few things: first, gigs are happening every single weeknight; second, most of them aren’t even planned by yours truly to attend; and third, I have been to almost 70 gigs for 2015.

2015 has been a heck of a good year for me as I discovered Philippine music anew -- and it broods at the place where minority of people knows -- the independent scene. Over the course of time, I attended about 50 events starting from a random night out that happened 24 January 2015 at Route 196. I was then supposed to watch my college friend whose already a musician.

And since then, the Philippine independent music scene became another world conquered by yours truly. I became part of a production group; I was posting anything about gigs for most of the time; and indie music also served as a venue for me to grow as opportunities came from out of nowhere -- be it writing or anything else like photography and videography.

Fast-forward to the year-end, despite attending the last one or two music events of this year from small-time gigs to the big or concert-level ones, I can say I had a lot of memorable evenings.

The Rundown Slam: WWE Survivor Series 2015

11/30/2015 6:20:35 PM

Screengrab from YouTube
This year’s Survivor Series, according to many, was so lame. Yeah, like the way I wrote my first statement there.

But kidding aside, why a lot of people were disappointed in the product after watching the pay-per-view event last two Sundays ago? I mean, what went wrong aside from the book booking and feud build-up?

The Pre-take: WWE SummerSlam 2015

8/22/2015 12:17:06 PM

heavy.com
Okay, it’s the biggest SummerSlam ever, as The Authority claimed it, eh? Well, you have a match that is called “too big for WrestleMania (even if the root and angle of this feud sounds illogical at will),” then the now-retired talk show host Jon Stewart is this year’s special guest anchor, and all-in-all you have ten matches slated that the World Wrestling Entertainment’s biggest party of the summer goes four hours. Yes, 240 minutes starting from 7 PM US Eastern time (or 7 AM Philippine standard time) on August 23, 2015 (24 in PH).

How about that, despite the sudden closure of the IZOD center?

Major Adjustment

Game Four was the midway part of a best-of-seven playoff series; and it’s more even vital when it comes to a championship series like the National Basketball Association.

And to be frank, it was a huge turnaround for this year’s finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors.

So, it's that wonderful time of the year, as the old holiday jingle goes. East meets west once again, like Stephen Curry's date with LeBron James; or should we say... Golden State Warriors with a last dance — and a big one — with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Just My Opinion: 2015 NBA All Star Game

3/1/2015 12:13:10 PM

(This is a late post.)

Stars shone the brightest in New York City during Valentines’ Day for the 2015 NBA All Star Game. Brooklyn provided the festivities for the Friday and Saturday, while the weekend never has been completed with the staging All-Star gamne itself at the epic Madison Square Garden.

At the end, records were shattered with a lot of three-point field goals; and it was the first time the Western Conference All-Stars garnered a victory after the previous four tries at the venue, 163-158.

Say, I won’t give much emphasis on the highlight reels, and other stats since I already posted this almost two weeks late. Let the video do the talking.

The Rundown Slam: WWE Royal Rumble 2015

2/1/2015 11:05:29 AM

wrestlingnews.co

From Pittsburgh (and the end-game disappointment), the World Wrestling Entertainment’s (WWE) first annual pay-per-view (PPV) offering moved a bit closer inside the Pennsylvania state, as Royal Rumble awaits the return of Daniel Bryan, the eventual emergence of Roman Reigns, and moreover the triple threat match for the most coveted WWE World Heavyweight championship.

I just saw Royal Rumble last night; and what more I can say, but perhaps another blunder at hand.

But at least, for instance we saw a bit of favorable result (err, that still remains questionable).

By The Names: WWE Royal Rumble 2015

This post might come too late considering I already made this posting less than 11 hours before the Royal Rumble event itself goes live at the Wells Fargo Canter in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia!

Well, unless you manage yourself to stay away from your own Twitter feed and instead stay glued to your TV sets on Monday evening. That actually may sound an instant segue to a plug-in, but it’s my own prerogative and I don’t need to get paid for it anyway.

Here’s the thing though: We have seen the numbers; those incredible statistics; and those figures which dictated history of the entire royal rumble match.

At first, I thought it will be the real final chapter for Brock Lesnar and John Cena as both wrestlers will settle their score on their trilogy for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

That, was the flow until Seth Rollins entered the picture.
