69 Filipino songs that rocked my life in 2010s (Part 6)

01/30/2020 08:42:56 PM

It's a shame that it took me two months to finish this personal project. I initially had this in mind since late November and worked on the draft by mid-December. Anyway, here it goes...

Ten years ago, I tried coming up with a list of my favorite songs of the decade here in this blog. Unfortunately, I ended up shelving it as I got more busy with college studies and post-disaster recovery.

Fast-forward to present, I became a wanderer in the locality's live music scene – a  far cry from the early years where I dig more of mainstream and foreign stuff.  Though I'm not hating at all, because exciting times took place during the 2010s, with KPop sweeping the world. Of course, the Westerners are still there, and each country making their music heard further across the globe thru Spotify.

Meanwhile, several artists from the synth-pop and hip-hop managed to get across the board – not only in the locality but also in my own preferred jukebox. Here's the fifth part of my nicest-choice songs of the decade.

PlayBack: BennyBunnyBand – ForHidden Song No. 1.

01/07/2019 03:23:06 PM

I first heard this song on a live nearly three years ago. It certainly wooed everyone inside the famous B-Side just before it hit the first chorus. Imagine that BennyBunnyBand was the first spark of the night as we were then waiting for MilesExperience during the launching of its debut album Again & Against.

And at the end of their set,  it dawned to a lot that ForHidden Song No. 1: Say Lang Titi... is, no question, a hit waiting to be fully unfolded on the Internet and hopefully, on the radio (Yup, they can get away with it).

The Scene Around: saGuijo Presents

09/03/17 11:21:47 AM

It's strange to notice we have two consecutive 'long weekends' staged at the month of August. Well, yes, but it's undeniable that it rolls in our favor because rest... ya know.

While I am supposed to hit down South last August 26, I was offered to partake on a role that I can never (ever!) refuse. Because... why should I?! Is this even a damn valid question?.

Upcoming: Free Gig for EveryBunny

06/06/2017 09:34:44 PM

BennyBunnyBand, one of the most energetic and loudest bands in the music scene today is offering an offer that is most likely (if not all) hard to refuse and definitely a must-go.

The Scene Around: Paranoid City "Metropolitan" Album Launch

05/01/2017 10:11:40 PM

Probably six years is a very long wait for any music personality or group to release a record comprised of a number of his/her works, especially original songs. And somehow, it was worth the long, grueling, test of time for eleven times out of ten.

This past Friday, though, was no exemption, as Paranoid City finally welcomed everyone to the place they'd like to be known as “Your METROPOLITAN SynthPop Destination.” Yes, after 2011's Viewfinder Dreams, the band just launched their sophomore album titled Metropolitan at SaGuijo, Makati City.

On Air: Indie Nation with BennyBunnyBand

04/14/2017 08:55:14 PM

Indie Nation premiered on Home Radio 97.9 during that early January; making it another item to join a trend of promoting Philippine music at this age and time. It's quite funny that it also marked the first time I dropped by on a radio station once again after a very long time. Well, at least to support my friends and this kind of scene as well.

(They just rocked Visayas last month, but it was all hard work that paid off after a series of events in over a quarter-of-the-year-stretch.)

The Scene Around: General Miss A's Birthday Gig

04/09/2017 02:05:24 PM

In a night where all the nightout spots were seemingly packed to the doors with artists that promises to bring awesome music and entertain people in the process, rare are the gigs wherein a good-sized lineup fares well with them with the aid of intimacy atmosphere.

The Scene Around: LRT 1 Soundtrack

12/15/2016 03:08:50 PM

LRT 1 Soundtrack just hit their third leg of a series so far this year, and it doesn't get any bigger than this with two instant crowd-drawers in the group of the up-comers right now.

The Scene Around: Sagana

09/20/2016 11:16:30 AM

After being postponed twice in over the span of almost two months, the biggest gathering of OPM artists finally took place – though in a different venue, and it all happened on a (thank goodness) calmed weather of that Saturday afternoon.

OPM High Sagana took place last Saturday, 11 September 2016, at the Estancia mall in Capitol Commons, Pasig City.

The Scene Around: Nag[ma]mahal Pa Rin, BennyBunnyBand

09/19/2016 11:45:59 AM

It's been a year since this kuneho rock band released their extended play (EP) called Nag[ma]mahal, BennyBunnyBand.

And it may be a heck-of-a-busy night around the metropolitan area with WWE Manila waging at the Mall of Asia Arena and Kia Beats Festival rocking the Araneta Center; but there's one venue just outside downtown Makati that has at least, faring up very well to the hype of the evening.

Upcoming: Nagma[ma]hal Pa Rin, BennyBunnyBand

09/07/16 02:03:41 PM

Off all the bands I've been listened to in the current music scene, BennyBunnyBand can be considered as one of the standouts, and we're not talking about popularity here; but rather, in terms of infusing their own sound.

Imagine a ukulele doing the lead thing in crafting a kind of rock music of its own. And since Benny Giron and his bandmates have rabbits as a spirit animal, it's no surprise they labeled themselves kuneho rock

The Scene Around: BennyBunnyBand T-Shirt Launch

06/23/16 4:14:25 PM

Barely eight months since their EP launch, BennyBunnyBand continues to make waves at the country's music industry as they launched their merchandise items aside from introducing some of their singles in Spotify during the first few months of the year.

The Scene Around: Tanya Markova at 70s Bistro

06/23/2016 04:05:13 PM

It was a good night to end a good month as Tanya Markova capped May 2016 with a bang in a gig held at 70s Bistro at Anonas, Quezon City.

The Scene Around: MilesExperience Again & Against Album Launch

05/14/2016 11:22:13 AM

It was a labor day weekend, considered a holiday for a lot of us in celebration of us, people of the working class in this country. Thus, the music has offered a variety of treats for us. There are some big-time events happening around the metro such as Wetfest, PULP Summer Slam, Satchmi Vinyl Day, even the rally for a presidential candidate featured a lot of musical icons from one generation to another.
