It's a shame that it took me two months to finish this personal project. I initially had this in mind since late November and worked on the draft by mid-December. Anyway, here it goes...

Ten years ago, I tried coming up with a list of my favorite songs of the decade here in this blog. Unfortunately, I ended up shelving it as I got more busy with college studies and post-disaster recovery.

Ten years later, here I am compiling the nices bunch among the decade full of best local music. There we saw a shock pop turning things around, as well as one notable act putting up an all-English album, a plethora of emerging bands in the mid-2010s, and a former frontman standing on his own.

Just when everyone thought Gabby Alipe's music career (as a singer and songwriter) is over, we were wrong. And probably, he didn't looked like he left at all; we were even proved wrong when he released his six-tracked EP called A New Strain.

Whenever we hear the name Gabby Alipe, it means another name: Urbandub; right? He's a wordsmith and a bonafide rockstar, no matter how many times he claimed to be an accidental singer. No question about it.

But from so many years of spending his time as a band member, he started doing his solo act in 2016 – just in time after missing the brief times of being a music-maker. Apart from being a parent to his son and to his management firm Nemesis Music Group, Alipe released a six-track EP titled  A New Strain. And this music video right here is the carrier single.

Barely a year after Urbandub went on hiatus, Alipe hit the notes once again – much apart from managing talents in Nemesis Music Group and focusing on his family as well – by releasing an all-new material, a six-track EP titled A New Strain.

It was during that fateful Friday night in November when one of the gems in the Filipino rock has solidified his status as a one-man act. And this time, Gabby Alipe wasn't the same old Cebuano rock star we all know.

While the famed front man took the helm of Urbandub for 15 years, being a soloist was a whole new different journey. After grueling process of song-making with producer Eric Perlas, Alipe released a six-track EP titled A New Strain, on November 11 and 12 at the A Space Gallery in Legazpi Village, Makati City.
