Marikina City, the Beasts of Live Music in the East

06/26/2023 12:10:02 PM

Since the resumption of the world back into normalcy, the events industry has experienced a sort of resurgence – or a rebirth, if some may say. Although, unfortunately, some of our favorite places have closed shop for us live music lovers, 2022 (or even as early as late 2021) saw an opening for some venues around the Metro.

Before the sudden shutdown, Novaliches slowly made their way for all the music and merry making the Northern people badly craved. Pasig and even Taytay in Rizal province also joined the budding trend of staging music halls. And no, this isn't biased because I was a Marikina resident since birth.

The year 2022, though, saw the emergence of Marikina City in setting up its network of places that would cater to those who clamor for live music.

12/29/2016 10:45:41 PM

There are some yearend gatherings around the metropolitan, big or small. Sometimes, they would set them on the 30th of December, second to the final day of the year. And some of these final bang events would take centerstage on Marikina City.

That being said, the eastern side of Metro Manila will be the pinnacle point of the final Friday evening of 2016 as Docdef Productions will slate their anniversary gig afar from what has been the typical one.

Spotting On Miniature Models and Nativity Sets

12/13/2014 1:11:34 PM

It was a sunny day at the Metro despite numerous weather reports about typhoon Habagat (or locally known as Ruby) when yours truly, along with other invited bloggers, went to the nearby Riverbanks Center as the Marikina City’s premier shopping destination introduced us to their sets of different museums located along the vicinity.

Next stop was the two-in-one place known as The Spirit of Bethlehem and the Museum of Miniatures.

First stop for the morning was the art gallery of the late visual artist Joey Velasco. Numerous artworks depicting a mixture of spiritual and society-related pictures were featured. The gallery became part of the Riverbanks’ Learning Centrum stalls since 2012.

While being stuck at the bridge, I talked to a student from UST whom was also stranded on his way to his residence in Antipolo City. He said there are no jeepneys passing by the the highway, causing costing him some time to stay at at the eastbound jeepney stop of SM City Marikina.

Remembering The Onslaught (Part 1)

10/09/2010 11:33 AM

It’s been exactly 54 weeks since a tropical storm ravaged the island of Luzon and caused devastation on almost (if not all) every resident of Metropolitan Manila and nearby provinces such as Bulacan, Pampanga, Quezon, Laguna, Cavite and Rizal.

In fact, Ondoy (International name: Ketsana) was held accountable for at least 710 casualties and 11 billion pesos in damages to property as it crossed the island Luzon, including the nation’s capital.

It happened after a massive rainfall on 25 September 2009 that has been unstoppable overnight and lasted 'til late evening of September 26. As part of the millions of victims who already told their stories—through personal or social media—here is my share of witnessing the catastrophic day. After all, who would ever think that a tropical storm like that would cause massive flash floods and overflowing the waterways such as the Marikina and Pasig Rivers?
