The Rundown Slam: WWE Survivor Series: War Games

This has been perhaps one of the unexpected twists since Triple H took over as one of the top executives of World Wrestling Entertainment. A rare time of having a non-traditional tag team elimination match for an event that is annually known for such. Really?!

It's time again that World Wrestling Entertainment has set the competition among its two brands in time for their annual Thanksgiving tradition, Survivor Series. Over 15,000 flocked the Barclays Center for the first Survivor Series show with the live crowd since.

One Night Stand Gone Naught

It is barely three weeks since we have last seen one of the shocking moments in WWE this year. Just when we thought of Seth Rollins' return, Zack Ryder's WrestleMania moment, AJ Styles's Royal Rumble cameo, or a double cross by Triple H as the top moments that had made us talking, we were wrong.

It was at the 20th of November, during the 30th annual Survivor Series, we had a main event that was shorter than what we even expect from those kickoff matches. Bill Goldberg defeated Brock Lesnar not only in absolute dominating fashion, but in an instant as well.

Heck, not even a quarter of the time they hyped this shit at all.

Survivor Series has come big time as the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) celebrated the 30th year of the event's existence with three Survivor Series matches between the brands RAW and SmackDown Live.

This year’s Survivor Series, according to many, was so lame. Yeah, like the way I wrote my first statement there.

But kidding aside, why a lot of people were disappointed in the product after watching the pay-per-view event last two Sundays ago? I mean, what went wrong aside from the book booking and feud build-up?

Survival for the Championship

Seth Rollins was perhaps on his path to overthrow CM Punk’s championship tenure until an injury prevented the WWE to do so. He blew his knees as he tried to do a powerbomb during a house show in Dublin, Ireland and will be missing in action for 6-9 months.

Sad, right? But that’s life. That’s the harshest aspect in the world of sports. You might not lose a game to your opponent. But if bad luck strikes, injuries can make you feel a sore loser. And even if you unstrap the kayfabe logic here, no one wants to suffer an injury that way. Why? Because that’s not even part of the plan.

With that being said, it’s quite unfortunate for Roman Reigns to also lose his contention slot for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Yes, just like that. He had to undergo a 16-man tournament, but heck, he chose to take the path anyway—right after shoving Triple H’s offer to be a “sellout.”

Un-survivng the Fantasy Booking

As much as I wanna feel excited for Survivor Series, I ended up hitting the dismayed emoticon.

And why not? The theme for Survivor Series is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Undertaker; and the only way to do so is by having him the captain of the Survivor Series team for the latest edition.

I guess the WWE creatives are trying to break everyone’s expectation; considering professional wrestling is “scripted” by nature.

They're all fighting for change. The future lies in their own capability to beat each other. It's all for survival.

While the WWE universe are hoping for a Randy Orton cameo despite his absence from the roster just a few weeks back, the Survivor Series was held on St. Louis, where another historical mark was made for the current storyline, and thus halting the reign of the Authority.
