'17 Nights To Remember (Part 1)

01/01/2018 07:17:12 PM

Regardless of how fiery it has been on all cylinders, it's undeniable that the year 2017 has been a wonderful year. Right in the midst of the mid-2010s band explosion, we have seen it brought a lot of good shits in our Philippine world of music (and we mean quality here, by the way).

Yours truly have made it to a number of gigs curated by various production outfits (in fact, more than I attended for the past two years). These also include some of the biggest concerts and music festivals that has solely focused on out homegrown talents. That said, here are 17 nights that really left a mark in '17... well, at least for me.

The Scene Around: Tagaytay Art Beat 2

02/25/2017 08:08:50 AM

After seventeen months, the biggest arts and music festival of Southern Luzon was back and it just got bigger as Museo Orlina and Docdef Productions staged the second Tagaytay Art Beat last Saturday, 4 February 2017 at Museo Orlina in Hollywood Subdivision, Tagaytay City.

Upcoming: Tagaytay Art Beat 2

The year 2015 saw Docdef Productions pulled off their first out-of-Manila show and has probably set everyone on notice during that time. Tagaytay Art Beat, a 2-in-1 event co-produced with Museo Orlina, happened last 19 September 2015 at the famed art gallery in Metro's immediate south destination; and the reception was hotter than anyone expected.

Around 1,300+ people were in attendance to see 16 bands and close to 20 artists exhibit their artworks during that fateful Saturday evening. And the name just got more noticeable when Tagaytay Art Beat generated buzz on Twitter the following morning. That probably prompt people to crave for more woodstock-like exhibitions like TAB.

Guess what? They're back and they will rock the city just ahead of time for the love month as Docdef Productions and Museo Orlina teamed up once again for the second Tagaytay Art Beat to be held on 4 February 2017 at same exact venue.

Weeknights to Remember: SlickMaster’s Memorable Gigs of 2015 (Part 4)

12/31/2015 3:00:36 PM

The post was supposed to be named Fridays and Saturday Nights to Remember only to realized a few things: first, gigs are happening every single weeknight; second, most of them aren’t even planned by yours truly to attend; and third, I have been to almost 70 gigs for 2015.

2015 has been a heck of a good year for me as I discovered Philippine music anew -- and it broods at the place where minority of people knows -- the independent scene. Over the course of time, I attended about 50 events starting from a random night out that happened 24 January 2015 at Route 196. I was then supposed to watch my college friend whose already a musician.

And since then, the Philippine independent music scene became another world conquered by yours truly. I became part of a production group; I was posting anything about gigs for most of the time; and indie music also served as a venue for me to grow as opportunities came from out of nowhere -- be it writing or anything else like photography and videography.

Fast-forward to the year-end, despite attending the last one or two music events of this year from small-time gigs to the big or concert-level ones, I can say I had a lot of memorable evenings.

The Scene Around: Tagaytay Art Beat Hangover

11/1/2015 1:27:25 PM

Just when you thought the first ever Tagaytay Art Beat was already in the books, last October 1, Docdef Productions, Museo Orlina and The Brewery at the Palace teamed up and produce the post- show called Tagaytay Art Beat hangover.

The view from up here at the Roof Deck!
For once, I never thought I will be dropping by Tagaytay City once again. It’s been like 11 or 12 years since the last time I’ve been into that place. And the very last time I’ve been there is at the famous People’s Park in the Sky—once known as Palace in the Sky during the Marcos regime—the urban park sitting atop of Mount Gonzales.

Until a week ago, Docdef Productions and Museo Orlina teamed up to establish a one day-long affair with music and arts called Tagatay Art Beat.

What can you have when music and arts collide? Well, a very excellent combo. It’s kinda rare the public were given for this kind of treat, especially for the interested people.
