The Rundown Slam: WWE Royal Rumble 2019

January 2019 has seen the wrestling world exploding into new heights yet again – and we're not talking the lackluster lineup of the Wrestle Kingdom 12 (but they still deliver better than WWE). With the new promotion emerging from the ground, it seems that that World Wrestling Entertainment realized they have a legitimate threat – no matter how much some claims that All Elite Wrestling (AEW) as the alternative from the usual.

As always, WWE is kicking off the year – and the road to WrestleMania – with its first pay-per-view,(PPV) event, the Royal Rumble. With the baseball stadium called Chase Field serving as the venue, the 32nd annual Royal Rumble was served with grandeur in such a dragging manner; housing more than 40,000 people in attendance who had seen a total of nearly seven hours (including 2 in the kickoff). Seven championship matches also took place.

The Rundown Slam: WWE TLC 2018

It was a rough year for the World Wrestling Entertainment, with the product seemingly went from bad to worse in nearly every pay-per-view (PPV) event – including WrestleMania. And its last gig for the year titled TLC is the last resort to redeem themselves after a year that saw Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega taking NJPW to the stratosphere, plus an independent wrestling show ALL IN sending a strong threat in the competition.

The Rundown Slam: PWR Live: Shake, Rassle and Roll

10/23/2018 03:06:37 PM

Halloween came early in the local wrestling scene, and Philippine Wrestling Revolution delivered a lot of hard-hitting treats – and it came without any sort of tricks, except that Crystal-John Sebastian LQ that still entertained people inside the 500 Shaw Pavilion Event Center in Mandaluyong City.

The Rundown Slam: MWF Republika

07/18/2018 01:23:38 AM

Manila Wrestling Federation's latest event focused on three key stories: the seven sets of clashes to complete the elite eight competitors for the MWF Championship, finishing the unfinished business between Ho Ho Lun and Robin Sane, and (believe it or not) the growing global presence of Gus Queens.

It wasn't a moneyball shot. In fact, WWE's latest pay-per-view event was oftentimes a blunder than a spectacle as of late.

There's always a reason why NXT TakeOver specials are the WWE's top shows year in and year out (sorry, not even WrestleMania can top them now). They have a stack of stories that has got everyone glued to their seat. Hell, they don't even need four hours to produce a stellar show (not even five).

The Rundown Slam: NJPW Dominion

06/20/2018 05:09:00 PM

There's a reason why NJPW has been THE wrestling show as of late. Forget WWE for a moment. Even without the sudden jumping-ship by Chris Jericho, this wrestling promotion from the East has been producing stellar shows and a bunch of exceptional talents that we are now seeing in Vince McMahons company in the West (Thanks, Hunter and NXT!).

The Rundown Slam: MWF Maki-Wrestling 'Wag Matakot

05/31/2018 02:49:26 AM

Since its reboot, the Manila Wrestling Federation continues to roll with new stories to tell as they positioned themselves as the new alternative theater spectacle in the country today.

And three months since changing guards and seasons, MWF was back at the grounds of University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City for its second show titled “Maki-Wrestling, 'Wag Matakot” on 27 May 2018. It was a Sunday evening filled with action and fun a bit fresh from its maiden event named Kasaysayan.

The Rundown Slam: PWR Wrevolution X 2018

05/22/2018 01:03:37 AM

The Philippines' premier wrestling promotion just have their fourth season ended with a bang, and that's of course the biggest show they have to offer called Wrevolution X. Ten matches are scheduled for Sunday's gig, with most of them comprised of stories that has been driving PWR for nearly an entire year.

But the question: did they deliver the goods after weeks of months of buildups and breakdowns?

Hey, the World Wrestling Entertainment should've provide the finest and premiere elite kind of sports entertainment, right? It's no secret that they are the top wrestling company in the world. They are the summit that almost every wrestler aspires to be with.

But in recent months, their product has been mostly less spectacular. WrestleMania should've been their redeeming factor after an array of lack-lusting efforts in showcasing events, and they are steering towards that direction until its main event.

Wrestling Overload?!

So the news apparently came even before WrestleMania took place: the succeeding pay-per-view events will never be exlcuisve to either RAW or SmackDown brands.

The Rundown Slam: PWR Live: TRAPIK

05/01/2018 02:35:02 AM

Philippine Wrestling Revolution has reached its last stop before staging their annual spectacle later this month. And it seems that massive obstacles has hampered on its path towards Wrevolution X.

The revolution returned to one of its former houses at 500 Shaw Zentrum in Mandaluyong City. However, did the event lived up to its expectations?

04/11/2018 11:13:54 PM

Following the highly-successful preview and relaunch event last February, Manila Wrestling Federation, the country's second wrestling promotion, has taken their fully-pledged resurgence in time for a wrestling-laden week at the Elements at Centris in Quezon City last Sunday evening.

The Rundown Slam: WWE Royal Rumble 2018

For the first time since 2141286418 years, we have probably seen a best product from the World Wrestling Entertainment. Hell, this edition of Royal Rumble delivered well, and in my opinion, just next to WrestleMania XXX in 2014.

We have nine matches slated in a somewhat 6-hour and 15-minute affair that has sent few people in either their respective homes or that viewing party at Skinny Mike's in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig  as Royal Rumble has become the first wrestling affair (in case they didn't attend PWR's first 2018 gig).

The Rundown Slam: PWR Live Oktoberplex

10/15/2017 11:28:30 PM

It's been half-a-year since the last time I have seen a Philippine Wrestling Revolution show. Obviously, there are new faces and new stories that they are trying to tell everyone. And I may have felt lagged behind by so faraway distance, but at least I'm still trying to keep up with their developments that are barely told and exposed through their social media pages.

And while they have shifted from Pasig back to their home city in Makati – specifically, to the near northern portion of Circuit – it's interesting that PWR has been grasping in new and innovative matches, especially in such manner that they are now providing the Filipino counterpart to what has been the likes of WWE's Survivor Series.

Well, while we will have to wait for another month to witness PWR Vendetta and their “Ubusan Ng Lahi” tag team elimination match (plus any signs of developments prior to that), PWR Live has joined the October-fest bandwagon of event-naming rights when they staged their October edition of PWR Live show titled “Oktoberplex” (with a poster that showed Mike Madrigal and that ass of Chris Panzer).

Any by the looks of it, it is more fun than the name sake: probably more saitsfying than beer.

The Rundown Slam: NXT TakeOver Brooklyn 3

09/01/2017 10:46:13 PM

Just like any big weekend for the World Wrestling Entertainment, their development brand has been a standout show for the weekend. Heck, they even toppled the E's big shows, and that includes the recent edition of WrestleMania.

It doesn't matter if they only have a regular (or even a bit smaller) number of audience inside the arenas. And even if you argue they are almost equal on delivering matches, but given the time frame of their coverage, TakeOver episodes weren't a dragging one to deal with. And they don't need to be stacked on doing so.

The five matches proved how Triple H's babies are the future current best crop of sports entertainment today regardless having less exposure time compared to the ones in the main roster.

The Rundown Slam: WWE SummerSlam 2017

08/28/2017 10:43:45 PM

As part of the World Wrestling Entertainmet's big four, SummerSlam, dubbed as the “biggest party of the Summer” didn't turn out spectacular as they should've been. Just like the past three years, the set-up was nothing but an inch-higher than their usual PPV stages.

And worst: no pyros; probably one of the signs that this promotion has been on a 'cutting cost' phase and that includes axing some of their original WWE network programs.

Luckily for us in Manila, though, this show falls on a holiday (Monday morning) so a lot actually had a great time on having this wrestling fix on either their respective homes or on that viewing party held at Skinny Mike's in BGC, Taguig City.
