07/03/2023 04:55:47 PM
2023 became a year for all nostalgia lovers. It was Christmas in Summer as Voltes V Legacy finally made it to the screens after almost a decade of being “in the works.” The celebrated cinematic action-drama television series debuted on 8 May 2023, sparking nationwide debate and massive raves among fans of the hit 1977 Japanese Anime series. This adaptation is reported to air 80 episodes in 16 weeks (four months).
The past Friday saw the broadcast of the 40th episode technically means we are now halfway through the entire program. That prompted me to ask: How's Voltes V Legacy been doing so far?

A "Sonic-like" Battle System
String-up combos in high-velocity battles unique to Sonic!
Combine Dodges, Parries, Counters, Special Moves, and other actions to exhibit your technical mastery in highly strategic battles!

Flick ReView: Red Notice

Red Notice poster (IMDB) |
For a movie that has three of today's biggest stars in Hollywood, Red Notice appears to be larger than life and the paper. And after a series of overwhelmingly plot twists, they tried. It was highly entertaining, proven that you quit sitting in your brain for nearly two hours.

It seems to me that VIVA Films has been producing some of the high-quality local movies recently. Buy Bust somehow raved for its grotesque and proved Anne Curtis can be a tough ass-kicking agent, plus Arjo Atayde being such a devilish guy as a character actor.

We have seen a sudden influx of resurgence of action movies in the current landscape of Philippine movies since earlier this decade. For one moment we thought of kingpins and hoodlums being showcased (with a glimpses of glorifying) the reasons beneath the crimes; and the next time around we just witnessed a perspective-twisting kind of crime thrillers (hey, who said we need spirits and ghosts to create horror-like films?).

Flick Review: ON THE JOB
9/29/2013 11:28:50 AM
"A likably rough-edged hitmen-vs-cops thriller."
- Hollywood Reporter.
"Gritty, convoluted but steadily engrossing crime thriller from Filipino genre maven Erik Matti."
--Variety
“On The Job, is no doubt, the best action movie at the present era of our (Philippine) cinema.”
These are the usual words that I used to see from a lot of movie reviews, be it a legitimate critic or just an amateur from the bloggers’ circle. And come to think that noir poetry (or better known as “poverty porn”) is on the roll again, be it a Jessica Hagedorn book or a “Gates Of Hell” remark from Dan Brown.
Positive feedback aside, I used to wonder if Star Cinema marketed the movie enough since they tied-up with Erik Matti and Dondon Monteverede’s Reality Entertainment, the real group behind OTJ’s conceptualization-to-execution plan (and aside from the former’s celebration of their 20th anniversary). That is something I cannot tell since I don’t really watch the shows from channel 2; and since the time I realized the epidemic dumbness of the present mainstream.
But either way, that made my drive for curiosity to watch that film. Good thing that despite the time I only had in my hands (since only local “rom-com” movies and foreign action counterparts do last for more than a month in cinemas) – I still managed to watch “On The Job” at one of those movie houses in Eastwood City (at that moment, OTJ was only shown in 3 theatres – SM Fairview, Robinsons Galleria and Eastwood Cinemas).
Okay, after 121 minutes of thrilling action, I can only come up with a lot of words to tell about this movie.

Flick\Review: Iron Man 3
5/7/2013 12:12:03 AM
For the past few weeks, I managed to check out few of the most notable movies so far. First, G.I. Joe Retaliation, second is Oblivion, and for my third checklist – the third installment of the Iron Man series.
Iron Man 3, the third motion picture for the American superhero from Marvel comics, starred Robert Downey Jr. as the main title character, with Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, and Ben Kingsley. Produced by Marvel Studio’s Kevin Feige, directed by Shane Black, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
