Newsletter: Acronis H1 2024 Cyberthreats Report Highlights a 293% Surge in Email Attacks

Acronis, a global leader in cybersecurity and data protection, shared new research findings from the first half of 2024 in its biannual cyberthreats report by Acronis Threat Research Unit. Titled, “Acronis Cyberthreats Report H1 2024: Email attacks surge 293%, new ransomware groups emerge,” the report leverages over one million unique Windows endpoints from 15 key countries around the world to bring awareness to global trends in the cybersecurity industry. Most notably, the report found that email attacks have seen a 293% surge when compared to the same period in 2023. The number of ransomware detections were also on the rise, increasing 32% from Q4 2023 to Q1 2024.

Newsletter: Kaspersky: Response time to high-severity incidents reduced by 17%

Every year Kaspersky prepares a report based on the results of the analysis of MDR incidents identified by the Kaspersky SOC team. In this report, experts highlight incidents that require action from customers, divided them into high, medium and low-severity types. High-severity incidents mean human-driven attacks, or malware threats that have a significant impact on the customer’s IT systems. Medium-severity incidents have no evidence of direct human involvement in the attack, but may affect the customer’s infrastructure without severe consequences, while low-severity incidents do not affect customer’s IT systems, but require a number of precautionary measures to be taken.

There's no such thing as summer vacation for cybercriminals as Kaspersky has found out that DDoS Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks in the second quarter of 2020 increased for almost thrice in comparison to the same period in 2019.

The cyber-rampage continues. 

The number of DDoS attacks in the third quarter of 2019 rose by a third, compared to the previous period (30 percentage points) and Q3 2018 (32 percentage points).
