Newsletter: Nearly a quarter of online daters experience digital stalking

A new survey, commissioned by Kaspersky of 21,000 people worldwide, reveals shocking data about the extent of digital abuse. 

• A third (34%) of respondents believe that Googling/checking social media accounts of a person you had started dating as a form of due diligence is acceptable and 41% admitted to doing so when they started dating someone
• Almost a quarter of respondents (23%) had experienced some form of online stalking from a person they were newly dating.
• Over 90% of respondents are willing to share passwords that could potentially allow their location to be accessed

According to the study – which interviewed 1,000 people in 21 countries around the world – online daters are keen to take steps to protect themselves in the quest for love. However, despite almost a quarter of respondents (23%) saying they had experienced some form of online stalking from a person they were newly dating, people are still vulnerable to an alarming rise in stalking and abuse this Valentine’s day from risks posed by location settings, data privacy and more broadly, oversharing.

Sda mata ng mga hindi makamove-on, ito ay #thrbowbackthursday sa kanila; at sa mata ng mga fans ng wrestling ngayon ay... Rusev Day. Plus nagse-celebrate pala ng birthday ang tropa kong musikerong itago na lang natin sa pangalang Adrian Arcega, gayundin ang mga taong nagbe-birthday ngayon. Sweet.

2019 na, and dapat hindi na tayo masyado nagpapakashowbiz. Pero ito nga lang bumungad nitong nakaraang mga araw, ang isang bigating balita sa entertainment kung saan ay nagde-date diuamno ang isa sa mga kilalang kontrabida sa kasalukuyan at ang isa sa mga kasama sa patok na love team.

Alam ko, sa panahon na sinusulat ko ito ay halos sampung oras na mula natapos (sa wakas!) ang isa sa mga PINAKAMAHALAGANG holiday sa ating mga Pilipino, ang Valentine’s Day.

Ngunit sa totoo lang, halos lahat naman ng mga holiday ay may hangover sa ating isipan e. Aminin natin, at pustahan pa tayo: bukas, malamang yan ang numero unong usapan. At ang ating pambugad na tanong sa ating mga kaeskwela/kaopisina ay “Kumusta ang Valentine’s Day mo?”

May sagot din ako d’yan. Abangan nyo na lang mamaya. Meantime, ito ang ilan sa mga istupidong tanong at nararapat na sagot kapag sa sususnod na taon ay may bibira sa’yo. Salamat sa isang astig na romcom movie (na hindi ‘chick flick’)na pinanood ko kahapon; isama na rin natin ang ilang mga banda sa indie na pinakinggan ko, at libreng beer sa isang music and coffee bar dun sa Fashion Hall ng SM Megamall (yung katabi ng Fully Booked), at sa tropa ko na naging kaututang dila ko mula komiks hanggang sa mga pelikula ni John Lloyd, hanggang sa pagbasa ng body language ng bawat lalake at babae, hanggang sa kung anu-ano pang bagay na nananatili sa baliw na mundong ibabaw.
