Flick Review: Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank Part 2: #ForeverIsNotEnough

04/14/2017 10:54:52 PM

Just when you thought this film is about forever like that epic romance film last year, think again. Eugene Domingo stars in a sequel that depicted the current bullshits of mainstream cinema; an ironic mirroring reflection of the concluded Metro Manila Film Festival.

No Quality Kuno?!

Flick Review: Oro

It was gritty as it gets. Alvin Yapan's ORO was just one of the eight entries for the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival. And apart from bagging some of the awards, the film was that gritty it also met controversy.

Change Is Coming (sa MMFF)?!

Flick Review: Haunted Mansion

Regal Entertainment has been known for producing several memorable drama and horror films in the Metro Manila Film Festival. In fact, their Shake, Rattle and Roll was so notable it had like 15 editions.

But the 41st MMFF saw two horror movies (or even three, if you count Nilalang) in Buy Now, Die Later and Haunted Mansion, with the latter doing more serious than the former.

Flick Review: Walang Forever

Walang Forever may appear to be another hellish romance movie with comedy and dramatic portions lying somewhere in between. But with the advent of the popular term called #hugot (or angst)in the emotional Filipinos, it’s quite more easy to stereotype Walang Forever; considering a lot of people arguing whether the F word really exists or not, especially at the context of romantic relationships.

Flick Review: My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore

Perhaps of all the movies who made noise for 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival, it was the current most popular fanbase who stood out the most. And who else can forget about Eat Bulaga’s prized kalyeserye duo of AlDub when GMA Films along with M-ZET Productions, APT Entertainment, Octo Arts Films and MEDA Productions teamed up to produce My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore through the direction of Jose Javier Reyes?

At least, kahit sa dalawang linggo man lamang.

EH ANO NAMAN NGAYON?

Tirada Ni SlickMaster: MMFF is a Business

12/28/2013 9:39:25 PM

“It’s all for business.”

Flick Review: Manila Kingpin – The Asiong Salonga Story

01/05/2012 12:45 PM

nhldsbrrd.blogspot.com

Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story is a motion picture made by Scenema Concept International, distributed thru VIVA Films. It has an all-star cast led by Jeorge Estregan, Carla Abellana, Phillip Salvador, Joko Diaz, Ketchup Eusebio, Yul Servo, Baron Geisler, Jay Manalo, John Regala, Jaycee Parker, Ping Medina, Paloma, Valerie Concepcion, Dennis Padilla, and a whole lot more. Screenplay by Roy Iglesias and Rey Ventura, Directed by Tikoy Aguiluz and produced by Maylyn Enriquez and Leonard Villalon.

It is one of the seven entries on the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival held from 25 December 2011 to 7 January 2012.

The movie revolves around the life and times of one of the Philippines' "Public Enemy #1" in the name of Nicasio Salonga, popularly known as Hito, Asiong, and Manila Kingpin for his Robin hood-like tactics. He stole money from other gangs to give money to the poor. And self-proclaimed owning Tondo and protecting his people from the other gangsters and rivals. He turned out to be popular then and a Liberal party follower on how he managed to fight and brutally kill his enemy hoodlums. He faced a life sentence but managed to evade these punishments. How strong his advocacy for change, and even his untimely death of that fateful day of 7 October 1951.

However, this film was hampered by controversy inside its personnel and its releases. Movie Director Tikoy Aguiluz took legal action that removed his name from the reel, promotional materials that include even in the side of social media and the internet. His efforts were due to scenes that had been re-shoot without his consent. Another thing is the so-called "sabotage." In fact, this film was shown to only 17 out of 51 movie theaters in Metro Manila on Christmas Day of 2011, prompting lead actor, also known as Laguna Governor ER Ejercito, to cry "Sabotage!"

But here's my take:
