Newsletter: Gen Z workers: values matter, and so does financial security

Despite appearances and tongue-wagging from older observers, it turns out that Gen Z is much more eager to work hard for both social good and long-term financial security than some might think, according to new research from the Ateneo de Manila University.

Steeled by economic uncertainty leading up to—and most especially in the wake of—the COVID-19 pandemic, the youngest Filipinos now entering the workforce greatly value both a stable income and personal achievement. These idealistic yet pragmatic members of Gen Z (born between 1995 and 2012) tend to look for meaningful and fulfilling work environments but also willingly forego creature comforts in favor of long-term financial stability.

AI is becoming a new member of society according to results from a new Kaspersky survey ‘Excitement, Superstition and great Insecurity – How global Consumers engage with the Digital World’. The study also found that today artificial intelligence is taking new roles in fields where it can succeed and be trusted by humans. A third of respondents (34%) believe that AI can be a better leader than humans because of its impartiality. The vast majority (57%) are prepared to use AI to run their daily lives more efficiently, and 31% would use AI to help them to find the right partner on a dating app.

Author's Note: HelperChoice has announced recently that they became the first online platform being accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, one of the government agencies that deal with the employment process of the Filipino workers outside the country.  With the accreditation, any Filipino who has been planning to work outside the Philippine shores will have to relief from a looming problem of illegal placement fees usually collected by the erring recruitment agencies.
