I know. I am neither a commentator nor even a legitimate advocate. But this is just my opinion about why we, the citizens of the Republic of the Philippines, should do our part in exercising the right of suffrage.

Yes, despite all the badmouthing we heard from the all corners, or even on the media regarding the government and their wrongdoings.

This summer, expect a lot of star players to be as free agents. As what I saw on their list, 3 of them are Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James, Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wade, and Toronto Raptors’ Chris Bosh, whom were all part of 3 of the top 5 draft picks of the star-studded NBA 2003 draft.
From last season, around a lot of teams were expressing their wishes to lure LeBron on their team should he failed anew to win the title (his first try in 2007 finals was a big failure when they were swept out by Spurs.) there’s Detroit Pistons whom even got an expensive playa in Allen Iverson, New Jersey Nets which owned by James’ friend by the rapper Jay-Z. But the team whom had been dying to do everything was the New York Knicks. James had been asked and answered a lot of times throughout this controversy. However you can’t just rely on his answers for which were I don’t really know if he did answer the question “Will you be staying in Cleveland or go to another team” right.
Dwayne Wade on the other hand might think of leaving Miami some other time. Well, that’s if he really wants to team up with his best friend in James. Well, the Heat had been doing well so far after its disappointing season 2 years ago by which the team even failed to reach 20 wins then. And Pat Riley will do everything to make their franchise player stay, aside from landing a mixture of young guns and veteran role players in the roster. Rumors had been spreading if Amare Stoudemire, another top free agent will land to Miami but it is out of the topic anyway. Should the Flash and the King leaves their respective teams, it seems NY has a fat chance of signing them up. After all, they had a much bigger amount of salary cap came July 1 and they may even give up their other players for them.
I personally don’t know if Chris Bosh still attempts to look for a better future but his team’s doing great. Save the franchise numbers for him, I know they will have another shot in the playoffs. Well, I’d rather give my friend Mr. Paul Robert Lachica a word for this.
Nah, it’s really hard to make predictions if any of the possible 2010 free agent class will stay on their respective clubs or look for a better one. But whatever happens, it will be always on the papers the next day around. For Donnie Walsh’s crew, good luck ‘coz even if you had a fat chance of winning big shots by landing any of these 3, there will be always a stiff competition following around especially in the league full of talent, glamour and money.

Just My Opinion: Now or Never for LeBron, Cavaliers

03/16/2010 | 02:41 a.m.

The Cleveland Cavaliers for the second straight season got no excuses for winning the championship if it fails to do it so again.

Superstar LeBron James had a cast of reliable anew in Shaquille O’Neal (whom they got last Summer) and Antawn Jamison (before the February Trade deadline).

That's aside from having Maurice Williams from last season’s sign up, and Delonte West (the only player remained in the roster that came from a massive 11 player deal in 2008).

Ben Wallace had gone after the disappointing finish in 2009, perhaps due to his failed assignment to defend either Dwight Howard or Marcin Gortat in the East Finals last late-May and to his injuries as well.

Maybe they could rely now in in Daniel Gibson, their role player whom had been playing at the superb level in 2007 playoffs during his rookie season. Well, it lasts ‘til the guy was slowed down by injuries the following season. Another is the always the recipient of James’ passes – Anderson Varejao.

This guy nowadays has been hitting double-double in statistics. However, his hustle plays count the most, though it doesn’t always get listed at that paper.

Defense had their key since Mike Brown had arrived to the Wine City squad, but that proved to be the big question mark at times when they fail to win their playoff series. Perhaps it’s because they’re facing a defensive (err…) or a good team whom playing defense really well like the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, and (dare I say) Orlando Magic.

One thing that this team is sorely lacking of is the field goal shooting of their power forward position.

Center Shaquille O’Neal may be older right now but at least if he returns from the thumb injury, he will be a force to reckon once again. He knows how to be in the situations of playoffs the most. But the one thing that exception for this however, was shooting free throws in clutch once the opponent resorts to Hack-A-Shaq strategy.

Jamison can really fill in the gap of a “four” guy, something that at least a solution to a problem that's really lacking in the Cavaliers.

Donyell Marshall has the capability to shoot from outside, but he lacks more of inside game to balance it up. Varejao may provide the hustle and defense part, he still lacks the much offensive fluid from mid range beyond so which means is still unbalanced enough.

Drew Gooden almost had it all (well I believe he really had it) until he went aboard to Chicago in exchange for Big Ben.

Antawn is a 20-10 guy who can be another recipient of possible Lebron James’ assists should the latter do the playmaking role again. JJ Hickson is coming close to that level of Varejao’s. Jawad Williams is doing a great job of filling the spot if James is on the bench. He can be a knock down shooter and can crash boards on defense and can take it to the rim as well.

Well, it’s really now or never time for the Cavs. ‘Coz if they fail again, they might lose LeBron come July 1, 2010… and even the entire winning tradition of their team that undergone a big transformation when the king arrived there.

Say, the Philippines had just celebrated another victory in sports when Manny Pacquiao won over unanimous decision over the Ghanaian opponent in Joshua Clottey. Thus it seems failing for the part of the challenger to steal one of the seven belts of Pacman. However, for at least I am agreeing with Mr. Dennis Principe’s insight about the fight through his status in his Facebook account, that at least the Clottey guy’s must be lucky to survive Pacquiao for not being another victim of knockdown wins of the pound-for-pound king. But if things pretty seems that way, it only means that Clottey is such a strong fighter with his strong body under its good and (yes, I’ll say it again) undergone strong conditioning before fight comes along. The decision win snaps the knockout streak of Pacquiao in three boxing matches over the 16 month stretch. On the other side, you might think like “parang binayaran lang yung laban na y an eh”… like my sister does said after the fight. However, it’s up to you and let’s just go on make respect to one’s opinion though. Man, if that Ghanaian fighter is really… you know, really strong I’ll say he got a long way to go. At least he’s not the type of like-Pretty Boy whom faces inferior opponents in exchange of better winning records and backing out when he faces some bullish-type opponents like the Filipino does have (so far).
One thing that perhaps seen the most is that the champion was always going aggressive at the offensive end throwing punches to the challenger. But once Clottey attacks however, stuns t Pacquaio as he fails to cover up on defense as fast as he could. But Pacquiao threw a lot of punches and hits proved to be costly for Clottey’s part the most. 11 of 12 rounds’ scorecards were awarded to Pacman, which means the champ really was scoring the most than his enemy.
But should Clottey wants a rematch? Oh, I think Pacman should be more careful this time.

a decade to remember - part 1

for over the past 10 years, a lot of events did happened that even shook us from every corner of the world. as for this, (though this seems to be too much advance for it's quite two months early to post this) i would post here what in my view, are the people of the first decade of the third millennium. (i posted this in random order, not on the way nor the measurement of the popularity that this guy may he/she had)

the big 3 of the nba draft class 2003. so, there's the main man who successfully jumped directly from high school to the professional basketball league in America named National basketball Association, and its two ballers who followed behind and even befriended him. originally, it's been the year that Lebron James went up the shrine of hype-and-fame that landed him with his fellow draftmates Carmelo Anthony and Dwayne Wade as one of the superstars in the league. from then, the three ballers established their existences.

Lebron wounded up being the Rookie of the Year in 2000, with the records of being the youngest player to create his name in the all-time stats sheet such as to score 40 points in a single game, have a triple double or scoring at least 10 in 3 different categories, scoring 10,000 points, named the all-star mvp to name a few. he even was a two time All Star Most Valuable Player in 2 of 3 East's wins in the said festive (2006 at Houston and 2008 at New Orleans) and the MVP of the recently concluded 2008-2009 season when they succumbed to Orlando Magic in game 6.

Melo, on the other hand, help the team (with the supporting casts of Allen Iverson, Marcus Camby, Kenyon Martin, Chauncey Billups, whom came and gone during the stretch of the decade) to make it to the playoffs after some long time, even if they lost out after the first round.

Wade performed at his best year in 2006 when he carried the Miami Heat to the franchise's first championship and named the Finals MVP.

Kelly Clarkson. the winner of the first season of the American Idol whom turned out to be one of the most popular recording star there. after she won, she released numerous top singles such as Miss Independent (in 2003), Since You've been Gone, Walk Away, Never Again, (within 2005-2007), and her latest ones in 2009 namely: My Life Would Suck Without You, I Do Not Hook Up, and Already Gone.

Michael Jackson, whom found himself in every newspapers and tabloids again in the early years especially during his child molestation case. however, he was released after he claimed innocent about it and was proven true. his last top single "You rock My World" was released in 2001, and that prove that he was then in the downside of the fame that he brought four decades ago. he was supposed to have his comeback concert in 2009 entitled "This is It", but a sudden news broke out to all the parts of the world. he died at the afternoon of June 25, 2009, Thursday. the first reports were cardiac arrest, however, police ruled that it was homicide later on. his public memorial service at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California were witnessed by almost entire population of the world as some thousands attended the event at the said place and billions of people watched it all over the world. he left a legacy where he was the one of the best-seller recording artists of all-time, and he joined John Lennon, Elvis Presley as one of the most influential icons in the music industry. one of the tributes made by Sony Music to him was the documentary "Michael Jackson Number Ones" in 2003/2004

26 July 2009

the best mj songs ever!

i know it's been a month since the world witnessed the untimely death of one of the legendary music icons of the 20th century in Michael Jackson and almost the entire (in not everyone) was shocked at that come June 26 morning (Manila time). As one of the million fans (whether solid, avid or just, whatever), here as my tribute my top 11 songs of Michael Jackson. and some of the best special mentions starting 12 onwards

1. Man In the Mirror
-
from the album Bad in 1987, and with the video showing all the clips involving the current events at that year, something that is quite unusual since MJ's videos were usually showing himself, doing his own sing and dance moves. this song actually spells one word for every listener of it: CHANGE

2. Billie Jean
-
this 1982 single from the best-seller Thriller tops the Billboard and other charts, with being at the #1 spot in around 7 straight weeks. and its music video was the first shown on MTV as the first music video of an african-american artist to be shown on the said channel. not to mention, the signature anthem for the signature dance - moonwalk. and also, this song became part of the soundtrack of Rocksatr Games' Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

3. Rock with You
-
perhaps you could spell motown music the MJ's way.... and also, the solo manner. with this 1979 single of his, it's no wonder some international music artists like this song, at all.

4. Ben
-
his single during those days of early 1970s where he is still part of his family group, the Jackson 5. a song dedicated to his pet rat? yea, you heard it right just in case you're not familiar with that song.

5. Black or White
-
aww!! that's the best intro this song has. from the album "Dangerous" released in 1991, with himself making that appearing at the statue of Liberty, well...maybe it's just studio or computer generated or something...

6. Heal the World
-
the charity song with another video of full of nothing but the happenings in the world. clear message, maybe we should hear it.... even some of our corrupt officials as well as the other inspirational songs from different artists.

7. Don't Stop 'til you Get Enough
-
this is such.... a 6-minute track full of disco blends of Motown, and arguably the very first single of Michael Jackson in the 1978/1979 album "Off the Wall"

8. Thriller
-
the longest music video ever shown, actually the MTV is also, a sshort film, cutted on a multi-million budget. hey, great show, eh?! not to mention the album itself was arguably the all-time best seller.... ever, unless someone oculd replace him which could be a mere long time from now.

9. Beat it
-
talk about 2 gangs involving on a fight there, huh?! and yeah, who's that guitarist whom collaborates with MJ at the instrumental part? i know it's from one of the best rock band in 1984 but i can't remember the name, haha! and who can't forget that red zipper jacket anyway?

10. The girl is mine

-
talk about collaborating with the Beatles' Paul McCartney on a song which battles one girl ny nonetheless, these two. at 1984 from the album "Thriller"

11. Bad
-
title track from his 1987 album, however his album couldn't raise its step higher of surpassing the 1982 record of Thriller. but a great song, no doubt about it, with your black leather jacket on.

the other follows, though sorry i can't give my own description at times.

12. Pretty Young Thing

13. Smooth Criminal
-
this is best shown or watched, should i say at his 1988 movie Moonwalker (or correct me if i'm wrong at that year of showing anyway)

14. In the Closet

15. I Just Can't Stop Loving You
-
I know this song has a female duet counterpart (though i prefer someone would name it, please!)

16. She's Out of My Life
-
a moving on after a breakup song, no doubt.

17. I Want You Back
-
remebering those days of Jackson 5, this i one of their very first hits.

18. Remember the Time
-
good for flashbacks, haha, just kidding. with Eddie Murphy, Imam, and Earvin "Magic" Johnson appearing on their respective cameo roles.

19. They Don't Care About Us

20. Human Nature
-
i just rememer that he was the first perosn who popularized this song before Kyla do her own remake version of this in 2004 at the album "Not Your Ordinary Girl"

21. Blame it to the Boogie
-
at the Jacksons dring Michael's teen years... good song for a dance events... maybe, retro-slash-motown or purely motown should i say

22. You Rock My World
-
his last single at 2001, also the last to hit at least top 10.

23. You Are Not Alone
-
One of the best songs from the album "HIStory" earning a 1996 Grammy Nominee and Awardee

24. One More Chance
-
watch the documentary Michael Jackson Number Ones in Youtube part 5 and see that for yourself

25. The Way You Make Me Feel

26. Scream
-
collaborating wth her sis Janet, at HIStory album

27. Gone To Soon
-
a perfect song to play during MJ's death... maybe because we didn't expect him to died as early as the age of 50.

Just Another Quote...

06/30/2009 04:30 PM

Listened to Michael Jackson's single from the album Bad, and perhaps you will find the last two lines of the chorus that could serve as the message of the song: one word could be enough for that: CHANGE

The Shot. The Second Time Around.

05/24/2009 12:58 PM

When you talk about "the shot," the place could be anywhere. But even more on emphasizing, it was at the homecourt of the Cleveland Cavaliers. And if you yammer about the only one who made it famous, I guess you already know the answer....

A Few To Go...

So it seems to me, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a best chance to win it all, eh?

A Short Tribute to Master Rapper

Perhaps, a lot of people around the music industry -- regardless of any genre -- would mourn on the loss of a great music icon here in the Philippines. Because he also was one of the pillars of rap music here in the country, enough reason to tell that he's not called as "the pinoy king of rap" or "master rapper" for nothing.

Hell Month

02/23/2009 06:53 PM

So it has been two months since the start of 2009. And almost five weeks (or even four) before the end of the sophomore year.

However, the challenges are just starting for me, as this month will be just nothing but more than what term for an ordinary college peep folk know. I'm talking about a so-called "hell month" (not just a hell week, okay?).

10 February 2009

The Pre-take: 2009 NBA All-Star Weekend Side Events

02/10/2009 12:16PM

So, Jameer is out, and I should feel "damn sorry" for this young point guard whom were about to made his debut alongside "Superman" Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis at the NBA's  mid-season showcase in Phoenix, Arizona. And Ray Allen has been serving as the replacement for the second straight time for the beasts of the East.

And also, it's too bad that the recipient for the 'worst news' during the early days in February are now the best team in the central division. Hey, I'm talking about the Cleveland Cavaliers. as Mo Williams was snubbed which could be the reason why this team are upset.

LeBron just got stripped by a rebound short of his 21st career triple double at the Garden, which barely means he also failed to follow the footsteps of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar three decades ago as the only player to have a 50-point triple double game at the stats sheet.

And they even lost to the Andrew Bynum-less (with Kobe being struck by a flu) Los Angeles Lakers. This time, their home-game winning streak snapped; following that 23-0 record at the Quicken Loans Arena, and also, the 27 straight home games dating back to the playoffs. (They only lost to the three-time playoff rivals Washington Wizards; speaking of the which, where the hell are they? sans Arenas; they just had their downfall at the standings, too.)

Anyway, let's go to the side events. Perhaps I noted some of them since I was lacking time to post this. It's Kevin Durant, who will lead the parade for the sophomores; while Michael Beasly and company takes the shot for the first-year players. Here are the lineups courtesy of nba.com
