For almost four-and-a-half months of being a gig-goer (well, I won't consider myself a regular), I  end up seeing my indulged self into certain kinds of music: dance rock, punk, blues, jazz, alternative, acoustic, and even world.

Well, it was all that cycle (at least not a shitty one) until somebody sent me an invitation on Facebook. Yes, a post-rock and math-rock appreciation night.

Sa totoo lang, hindi ko alam kung bakit ko isinulat ito. Hindi naman ako ganap na dubista kung tutuusin, at hindi nga ako nakapanood ng last gig nila na pinamagatang Endless.

Basta ang alam ko ay isang bagay lang: trip ko ang musika nila. At kahit sa panahon na nagiging baduy na ang karamihan sa mainstream OPM, isa ang Urbandub sa mga bandang hinahangaan ko na nanatiling nakatayo sa kanilang bakuran kahit pa ang ilan sa mga pipitsuging artista na ang nagiging “musikero” sa kasalakuyan.

It’s been a throwback Thursday again as of this writing. And just two days ago, perhaps a lot of 90s kids and babies went to the Mall of Asia Arena for a “one-night-only” event for all the ages – talk about Backstreet Boys back in Manila. 

All that despite N’SYNC’s epic line goes “It’s gonna be MAY!”

It was five years in the making. 

Five years of taunting in front of the media. Five years where each camp lambast one another. Five years of ‘negotiating.’ Five years of falters. 

And just few months prior to 2 May 2015, (technically this morning of 3 May 2015, Manila time) they have met on a random sporting event. They finalized the deal and proved that words on-air may be powerful, but never got to spit on each other’s faces. 

However, one thing’s for sure: come Saturday night in Las Vegas, the world will witness everything; lots of boys and girls, children of all ages, will lure into their television sets/radio sets/computers/or live inside the Sin City’s MGM Grand Garden Arena; things like crime, warfare or even traffic situation will stop; and moreover, words may be powerful as hit, but you can match them with punches – be it a slight jab, a swerving hook, or a monstrous uppercut.

Alam ko, may mga tropa ko na taga-Unibersidad ng Pilipinas na hindi naman ganoon ang ugali gaya ng mga naglalabasang mga jeskeng kuro-kuro na naglalarawan (sa pamamagitan ng stereotype) sa mga mag-aaral dun. (As in magaganda naman ang karakter nila.)

At alam ko din, na isang linggo na mula noong pumutok ang balitang ito (at nagtataka rin ako kung bakit nga ba pinuntirya ng mainstream media ang mga walang kakwenta-kwetang balita sa social media). Nagviral ang video ng isang lalake na diumano’y nainigaw sa isang empleyado ng SM.

At ano ang dahilan? Sinasabing hindi raw satisfied ang customer sa nasabing crew. Tinawag nga niya itong “incompetent” at nakagawa ng isang “unforgivable mistake.” 

Hmmm... tangina, ang labo pa rin.

Let me start this article with a question: Have You Heard Good Music Lately?

It’s weird that I am doing posts about nightlife recently. 

But here’s the thing though: it was only this year when the nocturnal in me just rejuvenated. And I mean rejuvenated by means of staying up all night, hanging out with people, and chilling out with the music playing. The third element was the very most important for me since I can’t live without music at all. Forget all the romantic shiznit (There is FOREVER in music, fools!), and the other harsh reality stuff as well.
