It was in June 1982 when music journalist Maurice Fleuret and France's then-Minister of Culture Jack Lang organized the first-ever FĂȘte de la Musique. Usually, citizens of a city or country are allowed and urged to play music outside in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks during this special day.
What was once a cultural-driven movement turned out to be a worldwide phenomenon, as other cities follow suit later on. Over the course of time, FDLM has been a yearly thing in over 700 cities and 120 countries.
