PlayBack: Sunday Radio – 90s Kid (music video)

02/16/2018 12:24:02 PM

The funny thing is Sunday Radio may sound like a radio programming for the noble kind, but there is actually an alternative rock band named as one, and one of their songs tackles nostalgia for the present-day milennials. Hey, everyone knows that 90s is one of the popular decade in today's pop culture, right?

PlayBack: IV of SPADES – Mundo

02/16/2018 10:09:23 AM

Every fan of this nostalgia-laced quartet knows they can make hugot-driven songs, too. And the hype for IV of Spades to release one of their popular songs Mundo has been that high since last year (heck, even toppling the groovy “Hey Barbara” and “Where Have You Been, My Disco?”). At least, they can make Filipino songs aside from “Ilaw sa Daan,” and thatr automatically merits a sure-ball for garnering a massive fanbase today.

But the question: did they lived to the skyrocketing expectations of many? It was probably a lukewarm response, to say the least.

PlayBack: BRISOM – Balewala (music video)

02/06/2018 10:20:17 PM

Going beyong their first record, BRISOM traced even further with their new wave pop -like sound to heights with a #hugot-driven slow pop ballad Balewala, which is penned by the bandmate Jason Rondero (and for all we know, this guy is also part of the iconic Silent Sanctuary).

PlayBack: Bita and the Botflies - Sisikat Ka Iha

2/13/2018 3:29:11 PM

If you think the current crop of indie music comprise of those swabe and funky ones, think again... you might be forgetting a variety kind somewhere along the way.

One of the recent bands from the Indie Ground – and also part of those bands under Trust The Process management – the bizarre-sounding Bita and The Botflies might ring a bell for some listeners today, especially with a bold, defiant music video.

Valentines Day Na! E Ano Ngayon? (v. 2018)

02/13/2018 06:29:53 AM

Ito na naman ang petsa na inaantay ng marami, maliban pa sa Pasko at kung anu-anong holiday (P.S. Holiday rin pala sa Biyernes). Malamang, ano pa ba? E 'di Valentines Day.

PlayBack: MilesExperience - Soberhaul (album)

01/21/2018 09:51:04 PM

MilesExperience has probably taken a huige swerve nearly two years since the release of their debut Again & Against, an album that launched their career in the stratosphere.

Who would've thought these four dudes are making music that's even beyond their age?

The Rundown Slam: WWE Royal Rumble 2018

For the first time since 2141286418 years, we have probably seen a best product from the World Wrestling Entertainment. Hell, this edition of Royal Rumble delivered well, and in my opinion, just next to WrestleMania XXX in 2014.

We have nine matches slated in a somewhat 6-hour and 15-minute affair that has sent few people in either their respective homes or that viewing party at Skinny Mike's in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig  as Royal Rumble has become the first wrestling affair (in case they didn't attend PWR's first 2018 gig).

PlayBack: Apoc the Death Architect - Loob Ng Kabaong (album)

01/21/2018 08:29:22 PM

There's more to grittiness of Ralph dela Fuente whenever he voiced his words from the early part of the decade. Why did I say so? His album sums it up.

The Pre-take: WWE Royal Rumble 2018

01/28/2018 11:25:23 PM

It's been a long while since we tackled anything that involves wrestling here at The SlickMaster's Files, from WWE No mercy last year to how did Alpha vs. Omega delivered a real quality wrestling atch after so long, to the locality's end last year with PWR Vendetta, and recently, how a third promotion here in the Philippines will fare up as the “realest deal of them all.”

That being said, allow me to make it up for all of the rundown of slams since the last quarter of 2017 as I recover from a long-time lingering mental block that has been hindering me to writer something else as The SlickMaster (Man, too much preoccupation had taken its toll on me!).

Meet the Sleepy Pop artist

01/21/2018 05:11:15PM

There are so many under-recognized gems in the music scene today; the ones worth the hear even if they seemed to be rarely seen (well, maybe that much). However, this time, let's hear from one of them, who goes by the name of Emilio Fabregas.

'17 Nights To Remember (Part 3)

01/21/2018 07:25:38 PM

Regardless of how fiery it has been on all cylinders, it's undeniable that the year 2017 has been a wonderful year. Right in the midst of the mid-2010s band explosion, we have seen it brought a lot of good shits in our Philippine world of music (and we mean quality here, by the way).

Yours truly have made it to a number of gigs curated by various production outfits (in fact, more than I attended for the past two years). These also include some of the biggest concerts and music festivals that has solely focused on out homegrown talents. That said, here are 17 nights that really left a mark in '17... well, at least for me.
